- With a box grater, grate the ginger on the side with the largest holes.
- In a small saucepan, add the water, grated ginger, lemon juice and honey. Bring to a simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Pour the lemon ginger tonic into a blender and blend on low until frothy. Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy!

WARM LEMON, HONEY, AND GINGER SOOTHER
This tangy infusion was inspired by a combination of Indian, Egyptian, and Costa Rican wisdom for soothing the common cold. Make a pot in the morning when you are not feeling well and drink throughout the day, reheating by the mugful as needed. My husband and I keep these ingredients on hand throughout the winter just because we like it. For children, add a splash of orange juice to cool it down.

- Place honey, lemon juice, ginger, and cinnamon in a teapot or 4-cup glass measuring beaker with spout. Pour boiling water over mixture and stir well until honey is dissolved. Cover and let steep for 5 minutes. The ginger should sink to the bottom, but may be strained out while pouring into mug.

- Slice lemon in half and juice each half into a serving mug (each mug gets half of the lemon). Be sure to place the juiced lemon halves in the mugs as well to infuse more flavor (see photo).
- Add sliced ginger and a dash of ground turmeric. Black pepper and cayenne are optional but bring more balance and heat. Black pepper also increases the bioavailability of turmeric.
- Top with boiling water and wait a few minutes for the flavors to infuse. Enjoy. Best when fresh. Can be enjoyed up to 24 hours later if stored in the refrigerator and reheated. Not freezer friendly.
