These baked cheese balls have a pleasing dose of cumin-and-hot pepper flavor.

1 1/3 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese (2 oz)
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened, cut up
1 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper sauce, as desired
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Steps:

Heat oven to 400°F. Line large cookie sheet with cooking parchment paper.
In medium bowl, beat all ingredients except parsley on medium speed until smooth. Stir in parsley. On lightly floured surface, knead dough 10 to 12 times; shape into ball.
Roll into 24 balls, using about 2 teaspoons dough per ball; place on cookie sheet 1 1/2 inches apart.
Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown and set. Serve warm.

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded monterey jack pepper cheese
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

In a large bowl, stir together all 4 cheeses, onion powder, garlic powder, mayonnaise and worcestershire sauce.
Cover and refrigerate mixture for at least 1 hour.
Shape mixture into ball.
Roll ball in chopped pecans.
Cook time is refrigeration time.

1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (4 oz)
2 packages (3 oz each) cream cheese, softened
1 tablespoon lime juice
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 cup sliced ripe olives
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
3/4 cup nacho-flavored tortilla chips, crushed
Assorted crackers or tortilla chips

Steps:

In food processor, place cheeses, lime juice and onion powder. Cover; process until well mixed. Spoon into medium bowl. Stir in olives and cilantro.
Place crushed tortilla chips on waxed paper. Spoon cheese mixture onto chips. Roll to coat cheese ball with chips. Serve with crackers.

1 ½ cups shredded extra-sharp Cheddar cheese, divided
1 cup shredded pepper Jack cheese
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
¼ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup spicy cheese-flavored cornmeal snack (such as Cheetos® Flamin' Hot)

Steps:

Beat cream cheese, 1 cup Cheddar cheese, pepper Jack, mayonnaise, Worcestershire, hot sauce, parsley, onion powder, and garlic powder with an electric mixer on low speed until creamy, about 1 minute. Beat in remaining 1/2 cup Cheddar until just combined, about 15 seconds.
Place a large piece of plastic wrap on a clean work surface. Place cheese mixture in the center of the plastic wrap. Pull up edges of the plastic wrap to shape the mixture into a ball. Refrigerate until firm, at least 1 hour or overnight.
Crush snack chips and place in a shallow dish. Unwrap the cheese ball and roll in crushed chips, pressing gently to coat. Serve immediately.

On the outside it appears to be a fluffy white snow ball - but on the inside is a lovely combination of creamy cheese, sweet-but-spicy hot pepper peach preserves, pungent onion and firey jalapeno. The recipe is a staple on New Years Eve at my friend Annette G's house and comes from Robert Rothchild Farm gourmet foods. They make a mean Hot Pepper Peach Preserves! Estimated time includes chilling time.

Chill for 1 hour.
