3-INGREDIENT CINNAMON ORNAMENTS (BAKE AND NO-BAKE OPTIONS)
Glue is used to make the ornaments sturdy and prevent crumbling, so while they are inedible, these fun-to-make ornaments will last for years to come.

Steps:
- Mix together the ¾ cup applesauce, ground cinnamon, and glue until well combined. Add more applesauce, a tablespoon at a time, as needed, to form a soft dough. Knead with your hands until the dough is smooth. Roll out the dough. I like to roll it between 2 pieces of parchment paper to approximately ⅜-inch thickness. (You can make thicker ornaments; they will simply take a little longer to dry out.) Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Use a straw, skewer, piping tip or pencil to punch a hole near the top of the ornament for a ribbon. (Make sure to do this now. Once the ornaments have dried out, they will be too hard to make a hole.) Place the ornaments on a parchment-lined baking sheet. As I transfer them, I use my finger to soften any rough edges. Dry in a 200℉ oven for 1½ to 2 hours. I usually flip them halfway through, but this isn't critical. As an option, you may allow the ornaments to air dry for 3 to 4 days, flipping about once per day. Once dry, decorate as desired and then insert a ribbon through the hole for hanging.

- Combine the cinnamon and applesauce in a mixing bowl. Stir until combined. It should resemble cinnamon-colored cornmeal. It’s okay if there are a few larger chunks, too.
- Pour in the glue. Stir until fully combined. Toward the end, it is easier to knead the dough with your hands to incorporate any last bits of cinnamon. It will be a fairly stiff dough.
- Cure for one hour: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap, and let it sit for one hour at room temperature while the glue cures.

- Mix the applesauce, cinnamon, and glue in a mixing bowl. You'll probably need to stir with your hands, as a spoon won't get the job gone. Add more applesauce or cinnamon if needed - you want the dough to be a touch dry, but it still needs to hold together when you roll it out. When the dough can be formed into a ball, you are done mixing. Wash your hands.
- Place 1/3 of the dough between two sheets of plastic wrap, and use the rolling pin to roll the dough to 1/4" - 1/3" thick.
- Remove the top layer of plastic wrap and use cookie cutters to cut out ornaments. Repeat with the remaining dough.

- Preheat oven to 200 degrees then line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat (I prefer parchment paper but both will work) and set aside.
- Add cinnamon and 1 cup applesauce to a large bowl then mix with a fork until clumpy. Next, use your hands to knead the dough together and form it into a ball. If the mixture is crumbly, add more applesauce 1 Tablespoon at a time until the dough is smooth but not sticky. The texture should be similar to sugar cookie dough - not crumbly but not sticky- and don't worry about overworking the dough as it's not edible and you really can't hurt it!
- Flatten the ball slightly onto a piece of plastic wrap then cover with another piece of plastic wrap and roll 1/4" thick. Cut dough into shapes using cookie cutters then transfer to prepared baking sheet. If the edges of the ornaments are a little rough just pat and smooth them down with your fingertips. Dough may be re-rolled and cut until completely used up.
- Use a straw to poke a hole through the top of each ornament then bake for 2 hours or until dried through, flipping the ornaments halfway through. Lastly, I turn the oven OFF then let the ornaments sit in there for an additional 30 minutes or so just to make sure they're completely dried out. Cool completely.

- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, combine the applesauce, cinnamon, and cloves (if using). You want the dough to be able to form a ball without being too sticky. Add additional applesauce or cinnamon if needed. You can also mix the dough by hand.
- Sprinkle a clean surface with cinnamon (like you would with flour while rolling out cookies). Place the dough on the surface and sprinkle with more cinnamon. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough to 1/4 inch thick, sprinkling with more cinnamon to keep from sticking.
- Cut out into desired shapes and place on the prepared sheet pan so that they aren't touching. Use a skewer to poke a hole into each ornament (to attach string). Bake in the preheated oven for 1 1/2 - 2 hours or until rock hard.

- Mix the cinnamon and applesauce together in a large bowl. You will need to use your hands to get them fully incorporated. When completely mixed the dough should have a stiff cookie dough consistency – you want to be able to form it into a ball that holds together quite easily without it being too sticky to work with. Add more cinnamon or applesauce if needed to get that consistency.
- Next, roll out a third of the dough between two piece of plastic wrap to a 1/4 inch thickness. Don’t go thinner than 1/4 inch or the cinnamon ornaments will be too difficult to handle and easy to break. Remove the top layer of plastic wrap and cut out shapes using cookie cutters.
- Move ornaments to a cookie sheet that is lined with a non-stick baking mat. If you don’t have a baking mat, place a cooling rack on top of your cookie sheet and place ornaments on that.Using a straw, poke a hole at the top of each ornament. If you’ve made smaller ornaments, you could also use a skewer or toothpick to poke a hole, ensuring it’s big enough that you’ll be able to thread twine through it.
- Bake the ornaments at 200 degrees for about two and a half hours, until they feel dry and hard. This is when your house is going to really smell fantastic!

- Ingredients + Tools. 1 cup ground cinnamon (around a 4-5 oz container) 3/4 - 1 cup applesauce. 2 tablespoons white glue. wax paper. parchment paper. baking sheet.
- Mix Together the Cinnamon Dough. Combine everything in a bowl (start with 3/4 cup applesauce) and mix with a spoon until the cinnamon begins to get wet and darken.
- Roll Out the Dough. Place the dough on a piece of wax paper and cover with another piece of wax paper. This will let you roll it out without it sticking.
- Cut Out Your Ornaments. You can use cookie cutters, freehand them with a knife, or use templates and a knife. Make sure to punch holes in them as you go - trying to make holes after they've baked is near impossible.
- Bake and String! You'll want to bake these in a 200 F oven for 2-3 hours, turning after every hour. Your house is about to smell amazing! Because it's been so rainy here lately it took me about three hours to get these to dry out all the way - humidity will play a big role in getting them to dry.
