Instant Pot American Goulash image

This Easy Instant Pot Goulash is a one pot meal. Ground beef, spaghetti sauce, diced tomatoes, onion, garlic and macaroni noodles. All topped with cheese!

1 pound lean ground beef
1 small yellow onion, (finely diced)
1 green pepper, (diced (optional))
3 cloves garlic, (minced)
14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes (with basil, garlic, oregano) ((do not drain))
24 ounce jar spaghetti sauce
3 cups water
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
salt and pepper, (to taste)
1 6 ounce box macaroni noodles ((3 cups))
shredded cheddar cheese, (for topping)

Steps:

  • In a 6.5-quart electric pressure cooker, press the sauté option and put on high.
  • Brown and crumble the ground beef along with the diced onion and green pepper.
  • If the beef produces a lot of grease, then drain. If not, then there is no need.
  • Stir in minced garlic. Turn off sauté setting.
  • Pour in diced tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, water and Italian seasoning.
  • Finally, stir in macaroni noodles. Seal the lid, then turn the pressure release valve to "Sealing"
  • Set pressure cooker on high for 5 minutes. Once finished, do a quick pressure release (carefully turn the pressure release valve to venting)
  • Open lid and stir mixture. Serve in a bowl topped with shredded cheddar cheese or grated Parmesan cheese.

1 pound ground beef
1 pint sliced mushrooms
½ onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic
salt and ground black pepper to taste
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 (15 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
2 ½ cups water
2 cups noodles
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
3 bay leaves

Steps:

  • Turn on a multi-functional pressure cooker (such as Instant Pot®) and select Saute function. Add beef, mushrooms, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Cook and stir until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain and discard fat.
  • Add tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, water, dry noodles, soy sauce, Italian seasoning, and bay leaves. Close and lock the lid. Select high pressure according to manufacturer's instructions; set timer for 4 minutes. Allow 10 to 15 minutes for pressure to build.
  • Release pressure carefully using the quick-release method according to manufacturer's instructions, about 5 minutes. Unlock and remove the lid. Remove bay leaves before serving.

The comfort and flavor of our favorite Ground Beef Goulash recipe in the Instant Pot!

1½ pounds ground beef
1 onion (diced)
1 green bell pepper (diced)
15 ounces canned corn (drained, (1 can))
29 ounces tomato sauce ((1 large can))
30 ounces diced tomatoes ((2 15oz cans), undrained)
⅓ cup brown sugar
2½ Tablespoons soy sauce
1½ Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt ((or more to taste))
½ teaspoon ground black pepper ((more or less to taste))
½ teaspoon garlic powder
2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
1-2 cups beef broth

Steps:

  • Press the SAUTE button. When the pot is hot, add in the ground beef, onions, and green pepper.
  • Cook until beef is no longer pink. If desired, drain grease.
  • Add in corn, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, brown sugar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Add uncooked macaroni noodles on top, then pour beef broth on top of macaroni. DO NOT STIR, but press down the macaroni so that it's all covered in liquid as much as possible.
  • Place the lid on top of the Instant Pot and turn the knob to SEALING (not venting).
  • Press the MANUAL or PRESSURE COOK button and set the timer for 4 minutes.
  • Do a QUICK RELEASE of the pressure when the timer is done (move the knob to VENTING to let out all the steam).
  • Remove the lid and stir everything together.
  • If desired, you can serve this with shredded cheddar cheese on top.

Season the ground beef generously with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Add 1 tbsp (15ml) olive oil in Instant Pot, and make sure the oil is coated over the whole bottom of the pot. Add in ground beef. After 5 minutes of browning, remove the ground beef juice. *Pro Tip: The ground beef juice is fatty, but it contains a lot of flavor. It's up to you to discard or reserve it for later. Continue to brown the ground beef, and stir occasionally until they are slightly crisped and browned (~5 – 7 mins). Taste and adjust the seasoning with more kosher salt and ground black pepper.
  • Sauté Onion and Green Pepper: If your ground beef is very lean, you may need to add in 1 extra tbsp oil at this point. Add diced onions & green pepper in Instant Pot, then saute for 3 minutes.
  • Sauté Garlic and Spices: Add in 1.5 tsp (1.8g) dried basil, 1.5 tsp (1.2g) dried oregano, minced garlic cloves, and 3 tbsp (45g) tomato paste, then saute for another minute.
  • Deglaze Instant Pot: Pour ½ cup (125ml) unsalted chicken stock in Instant Pot, then deglaze by scrubbing all the flavorful brown bits off the bottom of the pot. *Pro Tip: Make sure to deglaze really well for this goulash recipe!
