Old Settlers' Baked Beans image

My husband likes spicy dishes, and this is one of his favorites. He usually takes what's left to work for lunch the next day. We have a 4-year-old son, and this is the only way we can get him to even touch beans!

1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 pound bacon, diced
1 medium onion, chopped
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 can (16 ounces) pork and beans, undrained
1 can (16 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (16 ounces) great northern beans, rinsed and drained

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook beef, bacon and onion until meat is done and onion is tender. Drain any fat. Combine all remaining ingredients except beans. Add to meat mixture; mix well. Stir in beans. , Preheat oven to 350°; place bean mixture in a greased 2-1/2-qt. baking dish. Cover and bake for 1 hour or until heated through.

Baked Beans Recipe With Canned Beans is a quick and easy assemble baked beans recipe that is loaded with leftover ham from the holidays. This baked beans has two varieties of beans, rich sauce, and savory and tangy flavor in each bite.

46 ounces pork and beans (rinsed and drained)
32 ounces Northern beans (rinsed and drained)
1/2 small onion (finely diced)
4-5 mini sweet peppers diced finely
1 cup ketchup
1/2 teaspoon mustard
1 cup barbeque sauce
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 1/2-2 cups diced ham
1-2 tablespoons brown sugar (optional for sweeter beans)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. In a small skillet on the stove, saute your pepper and onions until softened. This takes around 5-7 minutes.
  • While peppers and onions are cooking open cans of beans and drain and rinse well. Pour the beans in the bowl.
  • Now add in the diced ham, sauted pepper and onions, Worcestershire, soy sauce, ketchup, bbq sauce, mustard, and if you want sweeter beans brown sugar.
  • Mix well and then pour into a 9x13 baking dish. Cover well with aluminum foil.
  • Place in a preheated oven and cook for 2 hours to 2 1/2 hours. The baked beans will begin to thicken. If you find they are drying out, you can add in some beef broth or more bbq sauce to help thin them out.
  • Once the beans are done, remove and serve. This baked beans recipe with canned beans and ham can be used as a main dish or side dish recipe.

1 extra large yellow onion, chopped fine
12 ounces dark brown sugar
1/2 cup yellow mustard
1 3/4 cups ketchup, plus more for garnish
Salt
Pepper
5 strips uncooked bacon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 360 degrees F.
  • Combine beans, onions, brown sugar, mustard, ketchup, salt, and pepper in a large baking dish. Lay bacon strips across top of beans. Squirt ketchup in a zig-zag pattern across the top of beans and bacon. Bake, uncovered, for 1 hour and 45 minutes.

The flavor of this recipe is classic and can serve as the main dish of the meal (great with a side of corn bread!) or as a side dish. Cook stove top or in the crock pot. When I drain the black beans and red beans (or substitute your favorite beans!) I don't drain super-well ... I just pour off the top and leave the rest of the liquid for flavor.

Steps:

  • Brown the ground beef, bacon and onion; drain. Add remaining ingredients. Either simmer on stovetop 40 to 60 minutes, or put in a crock pot and let it simmer all day!
