1/2 cup sifted flour
2 cups sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Cream eggs, sugar and oil together.
  • Sift soda and flour and add.
  • Work in the sesame seeds.
  • Roll mixture into small balls and spread them on a greased cookie sheet.
  • Press cookie down with your thumb.
  • Bake in a 350* oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.

A light sugar cookie with toasted sesame seeds. To make a double batch, I double all the ingredients but the butter and they still taste delicious.

½ cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¾ cup confectioners' sugar
1 egg
1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ cup sesame seeds, toasted

Steps:

  • To Toast Sesame Seeds: Pour seeds into a pie pan and place in a 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) oven for about 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Stir seeds occasionally.
  • Cream the butter or margarine with the vanilla until light and fluffy. Add the confectioners' sugar gradually, beating until fluffy. Add egg and beat thoroughly.
  • Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together. Add in thirds to the creamed mixture. After each addition of the flour mixture stir in the toasted sesame seeds. Mix until blended. Cover and chill dough for at least 2 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll 1/3 of the dough at a time to 1/8 inch thick. Cut with a 2 inch scalloped cutter. Transfer cookies to ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 10 to 12 minutes.

A quick and simple Middle Eastern/Mediterranean hit. I've seen both little Jewish grandmothers in Jerusalem make these cookies and Bedouin women living in the middle of the desert. A great simple recipe that isn't too sweet, is very versatile and fast. Enjoy.

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
14 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 cup tahini

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 355 degrees F (180 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with waxed paper.
  • Mix flour, sugar, and baking powder together in a large bowl; add butter and tahini and mix until dough is crumbly. Roll dough into small balls and press each ball into a flattened cookie shape using your palms. Arrange cookies in the prepared baking sheet and press with a fork.
  • Place the baking sheet on the middle rack of the oven and bake until cookies are golden, about 10 minutes. Cool cookies on baking sheet for 2 to 3 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

These are very interesting cookies. This recipe was given to me from a friend, and ..unfortunately I dont know how many it makes because Ive never made them personally. I know it makes quite a few cookies, but Im really not sure and I havent been able to find out. Please ignore yield. If I figure out how many it makes i will let you know. If you figure it out, please...let me know so I can make the changes.. or you can even make the changes. Ive tried them before, however.. and they are delicious ;-) Prep time doesnt include the 6-8 hours chilling time.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/2 cups pastry flour
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup superfine sugar
125 ml butter
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
sesame seeds, to decorate

Steps:

  • Combine the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl.
  • In a larger bowl; beat the sugar, butter, egg and vanilla.
  • Add your dry ingredients to the wet mixture and form a smooth dough.
  • Roll your dough into a cylinder about 12-inches long.
  • Divide the dough into two and cover with wax paper.
  • Place both pieces of dough in the refrigerator for approximately 6-8 hours.
  • YOU MUST DO THIS STEP.
  • After refrigeration time is over, and you wish to make your cookies, preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Cut your dough into rounds about 1/3 of an inch thickness.
  • Continue by pressing each round into a plate full of sesame seeds.
  • Place on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and allow them to cool for a minute or two.
  • Transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
  • Store in air-tight containers.
