White Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries image

Sweet, juicy strawberries are the perfect fruit to turn into a delightful dessert. White chocolate-covered strawberries are drizzled with chocolate for a shareable treat that makes the dessert tray look oh-so-pretty. Make homemade white chocolate strawberries by heating white baking chips and shortening until melted. Dip each strawberry three-fourths of the way into melted chips, drizzle with melted semisweet chocolate chips and refrigerate.

1 bag (12 ounces) white baking chips (2 cups)
1 tablespoon shortening
18 large strawberries with leaves
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon shortening

Steps:

  • Cover cookie sheet with waxed paper. Heat white baking chips and 1 tablespoon shortening in 2-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly, until chips are melted.
  • For each strawberry, poke fork or toothpick into stem end, and dip three-fourths of the way into melted chips, leaving top of strawberry and leaves uncoated. Place on waxed paper-covered cookie sheet.
  • Heat semisweet chocolate chips and 1 teaspoon shortening in 1-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly, until chocolate chips are melted. (Or place chocolate chips and shortening in small microwavable bowl. Microwave uncovered on Medium (50%) 1 minute; stir. Microwave 2 to 3 minutes longer, until mixture can be stirred smooth.)
  • Drizzle melted semisweet chocolate over dipped strawberries, using small spoon. Refrigerate uncovered about 30 minutes or until coating is set.

1 pound of white baking chips (or use white chocolate melts)
1 tablespoon lard or shortening
Around 18 Fresh strawberries with leaves
green-tinted sparkling sugar
Notes: you can also use dark or milk chocolate and different colorful sugars to match the holiday theme or party themes.
You could also tint the white chocolate green or red and drizzle over the strawberries after dipping in the white chocolate you will need an extra 1/2 cup of chips to do this with 1 teaspoon of shortening melted then add the tint.

Steps:

  • These are super easy and make great gifts.
  • Add the green sugar to a small bowl. then set this aside.
  • Wash the strawberries..
  • Dry them with paper towels leaving leaves on.
  • Cover cookie sheet with parchment or wax paper.
  • Heat white baking chips and 1 tablespoon shortening in a 2-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until chips are melted.
  • Note if you would like to use the microwave:
  • Microwave uncovered on Medium (50%) 1 minute; stir. Microwave 2 to 3 minutes longer, until mixture can be stirred smooth.)
  • For each strawberry, poke fork or toothpick into stem end, and dip three-fourths of the way into melted chips, leaving the top of the strawberry and leaves uncoated.
  • Immediately dip into the colorful green sugar just the bottom.
  • If you would like to drizzle another color then use tinted white chocolate melted ( melt the 1/2 cup with 1 teaspoon of shortening, add the tint).
  • Using a fork, drizzle melted tinted chocolate over dipped strawberries in a zigzag fashion.
  • Refrigerate uncovered for about 30 minutes or until coating is set.
  • if you would like to make a Christmas Tree with these just line a box starting with 5 strawberries across the bottom, 4, 3, 2, and 1 at the top. Build the shape of the tree.

This is the simplest version of chocolate covered strawberries I know. Paraffin was originally used instead of shortening. Turn the strawberries upside down and insert by the toothpicks into a piece of styrofoam for easy cooling, or simply place them on a sheet of wax paper. White chocolate may be drizzled over the milk chocolate for a fancier look. They are perfect for weddings when decorated with frosting bow ties, bells, butterflies, roses, etc.

16 ounces milk chocolate chips
2 tablespoons shortening
1 pound fresh strawberries with leaves

Steps:

  • In a double boiler, melt the chocolate and shortening, stirring occasionally until smooth. Holding them by the toothpicks, dip the strawberries into the chocolate mixture.
  • Insert toothpicks into the tops of the strawberries.
  • Turn the strawberries upside down and insert the toothpick into styrofoam for the chocolate to cool.
