ITALIAN SANGRIA

Italian Sangria image

Makes 1 generous pitcher of Sangria

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 750-ml bottle Tuscan red wine, (I used Sangiovese)
3 cups freshly squeezed orange juice
1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
3/4 cup Tuaca (a citrus-vanilla liqueur) (can substitute Triple Sec)
1/3 cup Punt e Mes (an Italian vermouth) (can substitute a regular vermouth)
1/2 cup limoncello, homemade or store bought (I used my homemade version)
1/4 cup sugar
Ice (I used a combination of instant Sangria cubes and ice)*
Orange slices, for garnish
Lemon slices, for garnish
Lime slices, for garnish
Blueberries for garnish
Prosecco (optional)**

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients (except ice cubes) in a large pitcher and mix well. Pour Sangria over ice in a glass.
  • * I added half a dozen or so instant Sangria cubes to the pitcher. The cubes slowly melted into the wine mixture and added a wonderfully fruity flavor.
  • **Add Prosecco to glass of Sangria or if you prefer, add Prosecco directly into Sangria pitcher and mix. Either way it adds a zing to the drink if you like bubbly.

ITALIAN SANGRIA

Italian Sangria image

Made with Chianti, fresh oranges, limoncello, triple sec and Campari, this hearty sangria has a rich citrus flavor.

Provided by Lynne Webb

Categories     Drinks

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 bottle medium-bodied Italian red wine (e.g. Chianti)
1 large navel orange
4 ounces limoncello

2 ounces triple sec
1 ounce simple syrup (or more to taste)
Angostura bitters
Orange wedges for garnish

  • Cut two slices from the middle of the middle of the orange and muddle them in the bottom of a large pitcher. Juice the remainder of the orange and add along with the wine, limoncello, Campari, triple sec and simple syrup. Stir to combine.

THE BEST SANGRIA

The Best Sangria image

The longer sangria sits before drinking, the more smooth and mellow it will taste. A full day is best, but if that's impossible, give it an absolute minimum of two hours to sit. Use large, heavy, juicy oranges and lemons for the best flavor. Doubling or tripling the recipe is fine, but you'll have to switch to a large punch bowl in place of the pitcher. From America's Test Kitchen

Provided by Kimke

Categories     Beverages

Time 2h10m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 large oranges, washed, one orange sliced, remaining orange juiced
1 large lemon, washed and sliced
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup triple sec
1 (750 ml) bottle inexpensive fruity medium-bodied red wine, chilled

Steps:

  • Add sliced orange and lemon and sugar to large pitcher; mash gently with wooden spoon until fruit releases some juice, but is not totally crushed, and sugar dissolves, about 1 minute.
  • Stir in orange juice, Triple Sec, and wine; refrigerate for at least 2, and up to 8, hours.
  • Before serving, add 6 to 8 ice cubes and stir briskly to distribute settled fruit and pulp; serve immediately.
