Steps:
- Fill a clean, empty mayonnaise jar with 1/4 cup boiling hot water. Slowly add 2 cups sugar and 1 package of Kool-Aid. Stir well.
- Attach a nail to one end of a string and pencil to the other end of the string.
- Place the pencil on the mouth of the jar so the nail hangs down into the thick sugar without touching the bottom of the jar.
- Place the jar in a warm place and let it stand for a few days. The water evaporates and colorful rocky sugar crystals form on the string.

ROCK CANDY
Steps:
- Punch holes at the top edge of a thin 8-inch square pan so that you will be able to lace 7 strings from one side of the pan to the other. Place the laced pan in a pan deep enough to catch any leaking syrup.
- Dissolve 2 1/2 cups of sugar in 1 cup water and cook without stirring to the hard-ball stage, 247 degrees to 252 degrees. Pour the syrup into the laced pan. It should reach a level about 3/4-inch above the strings. Cover the surface with a piece of foil.
- Watch and wait. The syrup may take as long as a week to crystallize.
- Lift out the laced pan. Cut the strings and dislodge the rock candy. Rinse quickly under cold water and put on racks to dry in a very low-temperature oven.

Steps:
- Prepare your candy growing area by thoroughly cleaning and drying a 2 quart jar. You will need a place for it to rest undisturbed for about 2 weeks.
- In a large bowl, place the water. Dissolve sugar in water, a little at a time, stirring each time until sugar is completely dissolved, until no more sugar can be incorporated. Pour sugar water into clean jar and place a bamboo skewer in the jar, being sure the top sticks out over the surface of the water. Cover with a cloth, to keep out dust, and let rest until all water is evaporated and crystals have formed on the skewer, several days.
- NOTE: For larger crystals, try "seeding" them, by wetting your skewer and rolling it in sugar before placing it in the sugar water. Be sure not to disturb the crystals as they are growing.

HOMEMADE KOOL AID TAFFY RECIPE - (4.1/5)

Steps:
- 1. Butter a large jelly roll pan or cookie sheet with sides really well. 2. In a medium saucepan, stir together the sugar and cornstarch. Add corn syrup, water, butter and salt and stir well until butter is melted. 3. Bring to a boil over medium heat and stop stirring. Cook mixture until candy thermometer read 250 degrees F (120 degrees C). This takes some time to get it to 250 degrees. Once it approaches 250 degrees watch very closely because it cooks quickly at the end. 4. Immediately remove from heat. (If you cook it too long it will turn out very hard.) Carefully stir in vanilla and drink mix. Stir well. 5. Pour mixture onto buttered baking pan. Allow to cool enough to handle, about 15 minutes. (Try to pull as soon as it's comfortable to handle.) 6. Butter hands and begin pulling, as many time as it takes to become opaque and lighten in color, usually about 15 minutes of pulling. You will probably need to butter your hands a few times. 7. Pull into long rops and cut into bite sized pieces with buttered scissors or a buttered pizza cutter. 8. Wrap the pieces of taffy in squares of waxed paper and make sure to twist the ends really well to seal. 9. Store in an airtight container in a cool dry place.
