Steps:
- Oil a 9x13 casserole dish, preheat oven to 425˚F.
- Slice cabbage into 1/4" thin slices. Place in a heat proof bowl, cover with boiling water and let sit 10 min to soften. Drain and squeeze out excess water with your hands.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, ground pork, drained cabbage and 4 cups cooked rice. Grate 1/2 large onion into meat mixture. Add 2 eggs, 1 tsp Mrs Dash, 1/2 tsp black pepper, 2 tsp salt, and 2 Tbsp finely chopped parsley. Mix well. Form into potato-shaped patties with your hands (each should be about 1/2 cup of the meat mixture). Arrange in oiled casserole.
- For the sauce, finely dice remaining 1/2 large onion. Heat a large pot over medium/high heat and add 1 Tbsp oil and 3 Tbsp butter. Add diced onion and sauté 5 minutes, stirring occassionally or until softened. Add julienned carrot and cook another 3 minutes or until softened. Add 2 cups marinara and 3 cups hot water and bring to a boil. Add 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp Mrs Dash, or season to taste.
- Pour sauce over patties until they are nearly covered. Cover with foil and bake on medium rack at 425˚F for 40 min. To serve, plate the lazy stuffed cabbage and spoon the extra juice over the top. Serve with sour cream (my favorite) or plain Greek yogurt.
LAZY CABBAGE ROLLS - Ленивые Голубцы
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Melt 1 Tablespoon of butter or oil in a skillet. Add onions, carrot and celery. Season with salt and ground black pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes on medium heat, until the vegetables are tender. Add the shredded cabbage, pour in about 1/2 cup of water and cook for another 3-5 minutes, until the cabbage is softened too. Cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, cooked rice, cooked vegetables and 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt and 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper.
- Form the meat mixture into oval patties, about 1/4 cup each, placing them into a 13×9 inch glass baking dish.
- In the same skillet you were using to cook the vegetables, add the remaining 1 teaspoon of butter or oil and add the minced garlic, sautéing for only about 30 seconds. Pour in the tomato sauce and another 1/2 cup of water. Season with salt and ground black pepper. You can also add some herbs or spices. Bring the tomato sauce to a boil.
- I love adding a bit of garlic to the sauce to make it more flavorful. If I'm using homemade sauce, it's already very flavorful and has garlic in it, so I skip adding more garlic, but add the water and heat it up. Heating up the sauce takes only a minute, but will really speed up the cooking process. Since I already used the skillet to cook the veggies, it's not going to be an extra skillet to wash, so I like to do this. If you don't heat up the sauce, bake the cabbage rolls in the oven longer.
- Pour the tomato sauce over the cabbage rolls.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 35 min, or until the meat is cooked through and tender.
- Another variation of making lazy cabbage rolls is shallow frying in a skillet.
- Heat about 1 Tablespoon oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Dredge the oval patties in flour and add to pan, cooking for about 3 min per side, until lightly golden.

Steps:
- Dice the onions. In a skillet preheated with olive oil over medium, sauté them. Next, grate the carrots and add them into the skillet. Sauté the veggies until they soften. Set the veggies aside to cool at room temperature.
- Bring two cups of water to boil with a tablespoon of the Better Than Bouillon Chicken Base. Place the rice into the water and turn the heat to low. Allow the rice to boil until it's about 80% of the way done (it's still a little firm and white). Don't worry, it will finish cooking during the final bake.
- In a large bowl, combine the rice and veggies together. Add the ground chicken and stir to combine everything together.
- Using your hands, form a patty the size of your palm and place it into a preheated skillet with olive oil. Repeat until you have a skillet full of chicken patties. Fry both sides of the patties until golden brown. At this point, you can move on to the next step or freeze the patties in a ziplock bag for future use.
- Dice the onion and cabbage into small pieces. Cut the tomatoes into 1-inch cubes.
- On a preheated skillet with oil, sauté the onion until softened. Add the tomatoes into the cooking onions and cook on low heat until the mixture begins to form a sauce.
- Add the cabbage into the sauce and cook for about 5 minutes. Mix in the sour cream and season with salt. Set the sauce aside.
- Place the fried patties into the bottom of a baking dish. Pour the sauce on top of them.
- Bake it at 400°F for about 35 minutes. Serve the patties warm with a ladle of sauce on top and a dollop of sour cream. Enjoy!
