Steps:
- Take your bar of soap (we use Dove or store brand like it, because it's more moisturizing), and grate it with a cheese grater.
- Pour the water and grated soap into a microwaveable container and cook on high for 3 min.
- Remove and stir until all soap bits have melted (put in a bit longer, if needed).
- Let it cool, then pour into pumps (leftover from store bought liquid soap), and the remainder in any container with a lid.

Going on the home made train. Trying when I can to make the items used every day for a fraction of the cost. I have seen so many laundry detergent, dishwashing soaps, fabric softeners, beauty skin care and natural things to keep the critters away. I looked up a few myself and thought I would post some.

- Grate the bar soap with a cheese grater (freezing the soap beforehand may make this easier) while you heat the water or tea in a large pot until it starts to steam. Take the pot off the stove, add the soap gratings and essential oil, if using, and mix well with a wire whisk or an immersion blender. Let sit for 8 to 12 hours. If the mixture is not completely uniform, mix it well again and let it sit for another 8 to 12 hours. Put your finished liquid soap into an empty wine bottle and top it with a metal pour spout. Store any extras in a glass bottle or jug.
- This liquid soap will not make suds like most commercial soap liquids. That doesn't mean it won't do a good job, just that it doesn't contain the chemicals manufacturers add to make it foam. FOR DISHWASHING: Add ¼ cup or more of white vinegar as needed to your dish water to help cut grease, especially if your water is hard.

- Prepare your workstation with your tools and equipment. Put on rubber gloves, eye protection, and an apron. Carefully pre-measure the ingredients. The oils in the slow cooker, the water in a heat-proof jug, and the lye (KOH) in another container.
- You now need to know if the soap is actually complete and if it's lye-heavy or not. Let's begin by seeing if there's unsaponified oil in the soap.Gently stir a teaspoon of soap paste into half a cup of scalding hot distilled water. Let it sit and dissolve, giving it another stir if it needs help breaking up. Let it cool completely then have a look. If there's oil on the surface, or if the liquid is milky and opaque then you still have unsaponified oils in the paste. Continue cooking it until it's much clearer. Just to be clear, milky means you can't see through it at all. If your liquid is translucent then you're good to go.
- Once you've tested the paste, you can now dilute part or all of it. If you dilute the full amount, then you'll have more soap than you'll probably be able to use in a month. In that case, you will need to add a suitable broad-spectrum preservative. Alternatively, keep the soap paste stored in a jar and dilute part of it at a time. The soap paste does not need a preservative and has a shelf-life of up to two years. The shelf-life will be the closest best-by date of the ingredients you use (check your bottles). You can also use the soap paste on its own without diluting it.
