My family loves ham like this. Sweetly seasoned ham roasted with moist heat is a delicious way to celebrate special occasions. If using a pre-cooked ham, follow the directions on the package for baking times.

1 (12 pound) bone-in ham, rump portion
½ cup whole cloves
1 cup packed brown sugar
4 cups water, or as needed

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Place ham in a roasting pan, and press whole cloves into the top at 1 to 2 inch intervals. Pack the top with a layer of brown sugar. Pour enough water into the bottom of the roasting pan to come to a 1 inch depth. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil or a lid.
  • Bake for 4 1/2 to 5 hours in the preheated oven (about 22 minutes per pound), or until the internal temperature of the ham has reached 160 degrees F (72 degrees C). Make sure the meat thermometer is not touching the bone. Let stand for about 20 minutes before carving.

7 -10 lbs bone-in ham, pre-cooked
30 whole cloves
1 large onion, sliced
3 cups brown sugar, lightly packed
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons corn syrup
3 teaspoons dry mustard
1/4 cup white vinegar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degree F.
  • Score skin on ham in a diamond pattern.
  • Insert cloves where score lines cross.
  • In a roasting pan, place ham and add onions.
  • Roast in preheated 350 degree F oven for 1 hour.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, flour, corn syrup, dry mustard and vinegar and mix well to combine.
  • Remove ham from oven.
  • Pour brown sugar mixture over ham.
  • Return ham to oven and increase heat to 450 F and cook for another 30 minutes, basting at least twice during this cooking period.
  • Remove ham from oven and continue basting as ham cools and until glaze starts to harden.
  • Remove sliced onions and reserve to make gravy, see recipe #42026.
  • Slice and serve ham hot or cold.

1 ready-to-eat ham, bone in, no water added (about 7 or 8 pounds for a half a ham)
2 to 3 cups water or chicken stock
1/4 cup white wine
1/2 cup Dijon mustard
1/4 cup orange marmalade
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons dark rum
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1/4 cup cornmeal (helps glaze stick to ham)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Cut away fat from ham, leaving about 1/4-inch fat all around. Remove any tough skin. Score fat in a diamond pattern with a sharp knife, being careful not o cut into the meat of the ham. Place ham, fattier side up, in a roasting pan and roast on a middle rack of the oven. A good roasting guideline is about 15 minutes per pound with the final internal temperature at about 140 degrees.
  • While the ham is roasting, mix together all the ingredients for the glaze. About halfway through the roasting time, increase the temperature to 350 degrees and begin brushing the ham with the glaze, repeating about every 15 minutes. If the sugar starts to burn the bottom of the pan, keep adding stock or water.
  • When the ham is finished, remove to a cutting board and let rest for 15 minutes before carving. If you'd like, deglaze the pan with a little white wine and add the remaining stock of water. Reduce to make a sauce. Alternatively, just serve the ham with a nice selection of mustards and chutneys.

I love this recipe because it is so easy and it calls for hardly any ingredients, and I always have these ingredients in my pantry. This recipe came from a good friend's mother, who was always asked to bake the ham for get-togethers and family dinners. Now I get those requests. People who ordinarily aren't too fond of ham rave over this one. After I carve, I spoon a little of the glaze over the meat in the platter - yummmm!

15 lbs whole bone-in ham (I prefer Cooks SuperTrim brand)
1 lb brown sugar
1/2 cup yellow mustard
aluminum foil

Steps:

  • In a medium size mixing bowl, mix yellow mustard and brown sugar until you have a thick"paste".
  • Take all wrappers off of ham and trim away excess fat.
  • Line baking pan (I spray with Pam in case some of the brown sugar mixture escapes, clean up is easier) with Aluminum foil.
  • Place ham on foil and spread brown sugar/mustard paste on top.
  • Fold and seal foil.
  • Do not open again until ham is done.
  • Bake at 350° for 4 hours.
  • Let set for about 1 hr then carve.
  • One of the best tasting hams you will ever have!

1 boneless fully cooked ham (4 to 6 pounds)
1/2 cup water
1 can (12 ounces) cola
2 tablespoons brown sugar
15 to 20 hoagie buns, split
Lettuce leaves, sliced Colby-Monterey Jack cheese and tomatoes

Steps:

  • Place ham in a roasting pan. Score the surface with shallow diagonal cuts, making diamond shapes. Add water to the pan. Cover and bake at 325° for 1-1/4 hours., Pour cola over ham; sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake, uncovered, 30-45 minutes longer or until a thermometer reads 140°. , Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve on buns with lettuce, cheese and tomatoes.
