1 cup prepared yellow mustard
½ cup granular no-calorie sucralose sweetener (e.g., Splenda ®)
¾ cup cider vinegar
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon ground white pepper
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon soy sauce
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon liquid smoke flavoring

Steps:

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, stir together the mustard, sweetener, cider vinegar, chili powder, black pepper, white pepper, and cayenne pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Stir in the soy sauce, butter, and liquid smoke; simmer for 10 more minutes. Cool completely, and refrigerate overnight to blend flavors before using.

We love BBQ sauce at home but the sugar content is a worry. Here I have created a great tasting sauce which is healthy too. My kids love this.

Steps:

  • Add a little olive oil to the pan and add the onion and garlic cooking gently for 5 mins.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients to the pan and simmer gently for another 5 mins.
  • You can leave the BBQ sauce like this or blend it for a smoother texture.
  • You can then cover and put in the fridge for up to 3 days but I'm sure it'll be gone before then!

Steps:

  • In a saucepan combine all ingredients; bring to a simmer and cook over low heat stirring occasionally for 10-15 minutes (adjusting the honey amount to suit taste).
  • Cool to room temperature then refrigerate for at least 6 hours before using or up to 2 days.
