My family loves this comforting chai tea latte recipe, especially on cold days instead of cocoa or when they're feeling under the weather. I simplified this chai tea recipe by using the filter basket of our coffeepot. It's delicious and great after dinner! -Julie Plummer, Sykesville, Maryland

2 tea bags
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1 cup water
1 cup whole milk
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons refrigerated French vanilla nondairy creamer
Optional: Whipped topping and ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • Place the tea bags, cinnamon, ginger and allspice in the coffee filter of a drip coffeemaker. Add water; brew according to manufacturer's directions. , Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine the milk, brown sugar and creamer. Cook and stir over medium heat until heated through and sugar is dissolved. Pour milk mixture into mugs; stir in tea. If desired, dollop with whipped topping and sprinkle with nutmeg.

Let's just say, this chai latte is the perfect mug of fresh brewed black tea, warming spices, a hint of sweetness, and extra frothy milk.

3 cups milk (dairy or dairy-free)
2 black tea bags
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground ginger
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
⅛ teaspoon ground cardamom
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoon maple syrup or honey

Steps:

  • Heat the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat. Once it begins to simmer, turn off the heat and add the tea bags (I snip any labels off the tea bags so they can fully immerse). Let the tea steep for 4 to 5 minutes, then remove the tea bags with a slotted spoon.
  • Turn the heat back up to medium heat, and add the cinnamon, ginger, cloves, cardamom, vanilla, and maple syrup. Whisk everything together, until the chai tea is hot.
  • Pour the tea into mugs and if you'd like, top with extra milk foam and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

This is the fastest way I know to get a cup of Chai Tea latte after dinner. This makes about 1 cup, double or triple ingredient measures for more. My favorite combinations are Blue Diamond Natural "Almond Breeze" Vanilla Non-Dairy Beverage (almond 'milk') and TAZO Chai Spiced Black Tea Latte Concentrate.

I read the ingredients from latte mixes and came up with this recipe. I like it best with brown sugar although it's also great with honey (and a little healthier) A bonus: I like this recipe MUCH better than a starbuck's chai tea latte!

3 tablespoons brown sugar (or honey)
1 teaspoon instant tea (unsweetened or no flavoring)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 1/2 cups low-fat milk
1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)

Steps:

  • Mix all dry ingredients together.
  • Add dry ingredients to 1-1/2 cups milk and vanilla in microwave proof bowl or saucepan
  • In microwave or on stovetop: Heat until the temperature you like your latte (do not boil).
  • Froth with portable electric wisk / frother --- or by hand and pour into mug (I make mine every morning to drink in a travel mug on the way to work).

1 cup sugar
8 chai tea bags
10 ounces milk
Ground cinnamon, for sprinkling

Steps:

  • For the chai syrup: In a small saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar, then remove from the heat and add the tea bags. Let steep for 10 minutes, then remove the tea bags, pressing on them to extract as much flavor as possible. Transfer the chai syrup to a jar. Use right away or refrigerate for up to 1 month. Makes about 1 1/4 cups syrup, which is enough for 5 to 6 chai lattes.
  • For the chai latte: Pour 3 to 4 tablespoons of the chai syrup in a large mug. In a medium saucepan, warm the milk over medium-high heat, whisking constantly, until steaming and foamy on top, about 3 minutes. Slowly pour into the mug, then garnish with ground cinnamon and serve.
