Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup beef jerky, beef or 1 cup venison, coarsely powdered
1 cup dried saskatoon berries or 1 cup dried blueberries
1 cup un-roasted sunflower seeds or 1 cup crushed nuts, of any kind
2 teaspoons honey
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/2 teaspoon cayenne

Steps:

  • This version uses peanut butter rather than melted suet or lard as the binding agent, which is more palatable for today's health conscious diets.
  • Although you can do it the old way if you wish.
  • Grind[or pound] the dried meat to a mealy powder.
  • Add the dried berries and seeds or nuts.
  • Heat the honey, peanut butter and cayenne until softened.
  • Blend.
  • When cooled, store in a plastic bag or sausage casing in a cool dry place.
  • It will keep for months.

1 lb moose, sliced thin
1/2 cup raisins
3 large dates
2 tablespoons melted suet
2 tablespoons melted vegetable shortening
1 tablespoon lemon juice

Steps:

  • Cut/the meat into thin slices and dry as for jerky in a slow oven, (175-200 Degrees F.) for 4 to 5 hours.
  • Put the dried meat through a coarse grinder, then pulverize it into a fine powder.
  • Grind the raisins and dates together and work into the meat with your fingers until thoroughly blended.
  • Combine the melted suet, shortening and lemon juice.
  • Pour over the meat/fruit until the mixture will hold together.
  • Shape into small patties about 3-inches in diameter and 1/2 in thick.
  • Keep covered in a cool dry place.
