My family asks for these scones all the time, but I like to save this special treat just for celebrations. It makes them feel extra-special that way. -Leslie Parker, Avoca, Iowa

Number Of Ingredients 13

3 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup cold butter, cubed
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup buttermilk
4 teaspoons grated orange zest
1 teaspoon orange extract
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°. In a large bowl, whisk the first 5 ingredients. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in chocolate chips. In another bowl, mix milk, orange zest and extract until blended; stir into flour mixture just until moistened., Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead gently 10 times. Divide dough in half. Pat each portion into an 8-in. circle. Cut each into 8 wedges. Place wedges on a greased baking sheet., In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon. Lightly brush scones with cream; sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture. Bake 15-17 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour, divided
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon white sugar
¼ cup shortening
½ white chocolate, chopped
⅓ cup blueberries
½ teaspoon grated orange zest
½ cup milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Place 2 cups flour, baking powder, and sugar in the bowl of a food processor or blender; pulse a few times to combine. Add shortening; pulse until mixture has the consistency of fine crumbs.
  • Place flour mixture in a bowl; stir in white chocolate, blueberries, and orange zest. Stir milk into flour mixture gradually to form a smooth batter. Turn mixture out onto a floured board; sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup flour. Knead a few times to incorporate flour and form a smooth dough.
  • Roll dough out 1/2-inch thick; cut scones with a biscuit cutter to desired size. Place scones on a baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden, about 15 minutes.

These are sweet scones and I just adore them with the raspberry jam and whipped cream. A decadent treat!

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter, cold
1 large egg
2/3 cup buttermilk
4 -6 ounces white chocolate chips
raspberry jam
whipped cream

Steps:

  • Lightly grease a baking pan and preheat oven to 400°.
  • In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients.
  • Cut the butter into small pieces and incorporate into the flour mixture with a pastry cutter, or a fork, until evenly incorporated.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the egg and buttermilk together and stir lightly into the flour mixture.
  • Mix in the chips.
  • Knead dough together, just until mixed.
  • This is a fairly wet dough-do not add too much flour or handle too much or the scones will get tough.
  • On a lightly floured surface, pat or roll the dough out to about 1-inch thick.
  • Cut with a round 2-inch floured cookie cutter.
  • Place on a baking sheet and bake about 15 minutes, or until scones are a light golden brown.
  • Serve with jam and whipped cream.

My mom emailed me this recipe. I had a bunch of those Orange Cream Kisses left over from Easter. I just chopped them up and they worked out perfectly.

6 tablespoons butter, softened
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup dried fruit (I used cranberries, can also make them with blueberries, apricots)
1/2 cup white chocolate chips
1 egg (beaten and add buttermilk to make 1 Cup)
7/8 cup buttermilk (added to egg, see above)

Steps:

  • Lightly grease cookie sheets and preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Cut butter into dry mixture of flour, sugar, baking powder and salt with pastry cutter.
  • Add buttermilk, cranberries and chips. Mix thoroughly.
  • Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto cookie sheets as you would cookies, about 12 at a time. (Or, can make a round scone loaf, score and bake.).
  • Sprinkle with granulated sugar before baking. Bake for 10-12 minutes,.
  • or till lightly browned. Remove from baking sheet and cool.

½ cup white chocolate chips
⅓ cup white sugar
2 tablespoons culinary-grade lavender
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon imitation vanilla flavoring

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Whisk flour, chocolate chips, sugar, lavender, baking powder, salt, and baking soda together in a large glass mixing bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until the texture resembles coarse cornmeal with some small chunks of butter in the mix.
  • Whisk cream, vanilla extract, and vanilla flavoring together in a small bowl. Add to the mixing bowl and use a spatula to blend into the flour mixture. Knead dough until completely combined.
  • Cut dough in half and form each piece into a disc. Place discs on the prepared baking sheet and cut each one into 8 wedges.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°. In a small bowl, combine pancake mix, cream and orange zest. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead 6 times. Knead in chocolate., Pat into a 9-in. circle.
