SOUTHERN PEACH COBBLER



Southern Peach Cobbler image

Our peach cobbler can easily be made with either fresh or frozen peaches. Great dessert for most any meal and a real old Southern favorite.

4 cups sliced Peaches, fresh or frozen (thawed)
1 cup sugar, divided
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 teaspoon Lemon Juice
1 stick butter, melted
1 cup All-Purpose Flour
2 teaspoons Baking Powder
Dash of salt
3/4 cup Milk

Steps:

  • Place peaches in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add ½ cup of the sugar.
  • Add extract.
  • Add lemon juice.
  • Toss gently to coat peaches. Set aside.
  • Place flour in a separate small bowl.
  • Add baking powder.
  • Add the other ½ cup sugar.
  • Add dash of salt.
  • Stir dry ingredients together.
  • Gradually stir in the milk until batter is smooth.
  • Pour melted butter into baking dish (3qt)
  • Pour flour mixture on top of butter. Do not stir.
  • Pour peaches over top of flour mixture. Do not stir.
  • Bake at 350F degrees for 50-60 minutes until golden brown on top.
  • Enjoy!

Steps:

  • Melt butter until slightly brown Pour into an 8-by-12-inch baking dish.
  • Mix sugar, flour, baking powder, salt, and milk.
  • Pour into melted butter.
  • Do not stir.
  • Cover top of batter with peaches.
  • Do not mix.
  • Cover top of peaches with brown sugar.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown.

2 large peaches, peeled and sliced
1-1/2 cups sugar, divided
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder

Steps:

  • In a bowl, combine peaches and 3/4 cup sugar; set aside. Pour butter into an 8-in. square baking dish. In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and remaining sugar; stir in milk just until combined. Pour over butter. Top with the peaches. 1 tablespoon cornstarch
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 cups sliced fresh peaches
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons shortening
½ cup milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Combine 1/2 cup sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon in a saucepan and whisk to mix. Stir in sliced peaches (see Editor's Note) and lemon juice, tossing until peaches are evenly coated.
  • Cook filling over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil 1 minute. Pour mixture into an ungreased 2-quart casserole dish. Keep mixture hot in oven while you make the topping.
  • In a medium bowl combine flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix thoroughly, then cut in shortening until mixture looks like fine crumbs. Add milk and stir until mixture is evenly moistened.
  • Remove peach filling from oven and drop dough onto peaches in 6 equal-size spoonfuls.
  • Return cobbler to oven and bake until topping is golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes.
