Homemade applesauce: 5 fruit flavors image

Easy homemade fruit-flavored applesauce: 5 flavors and lots of ideas for variations!

1 cup applesauce
2 cups chopped peaches (from 2 small peaches)
1 teaspoon lemon juice
don't remove peel
1 cup applesauce
1 cup blueberries
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup applesauce
2 cups sliced strawberries
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup applesauce
2 cups chopped mango
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup applesauce
2 cups chopped pineapple
1 teaspoon lemon juice

Steps:

  • For each flavor, just combine all ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth. Done!

1/3 cup sugar
1 stalk fresh lemon grass, in pieces
2/3 cup passion fruit nectar like Looza or Ceres (sold in fancy-food shops)
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Steps:

  • Mix sugar with 1/4 cup water in a small saucepan, simmer until sugar dissolves, add lemon grass, and set aside to cool 20 minutes.
  • Stir in passion fruit nectar and lemon juice. Refrigerate.

3 lbs apples, peeled, cored and quartered (your choice of variety)
1/3 cup passion fruit juice, strained (or nectar)
1/2 vanilla bean, split
2 slices ginger, 1/4-inch, gently crushed
1/2 cup mirin
3 tablespoons honey (or to taste)

Steps:

  • Place all ingredients in a heavy non-reactive saucepan over medium heat.
  • Cover and cook until apples are very soft, 10-15 minutes. Reduce temperature if apples start to boil over.
  • Remove from heat and take out ginger and vanilla bean.
  • Place apple mixture in food processor and puree into a smooth sauce.
