This was my father-in-laws old family recipe. He used to add real onions in it, but as it sets, it would taste like onion juice, so I switched it to use onion powder instead. Great salad dressing!

1 cup white sugar
½ cup white vinegar
1 cup vegetable oil
½ cup lemon juice
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon paprika
1 ½ small onions, grated
2 cloves garlic, pressed
¼ cup crumbled blue cheese

Steps:

  • Add ketchup, sugar, vinegar, oil, lemon juice, salt, paprika, onions, garlic and blue cheese to a glass jar. Cover, shake well, and refrigerate. This will keep in the refrigerator for quite a while.

Steps:

  • Blend together all ingredients except the oils. Using a whisk or food processor, combine the oils and add them in a very fine stream, continuing to whisk until the mixture is well combined. Chill and shake thoroughly before serving.

1 large head shredded cabbage
2 medium red delicious apples, cored, & chopped (don't peel)
1 cup(s) seedless red and / or green grapes, cut in half
1/2 large red onion, cut in thin slivers
1 cup(s) raisins
- dressing:
1 cup(s) real mayonnaise
6 tablespoon(s) sugar
6 tablespoon(s) cider vinegar
6 tablespoon(s) pocohontas honey mustard
2 teaspoon(s) salt
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) coarse ground blackpepper
- **may need more or less dressing

Steps:

  • In large bowl, combine 1st 5 ingredients & toss to mix.
  • Mix all dressing ingredients with a wire wisk.
  • Pour over slaw. **May not need all of dressing or may need more. I used to make big batches of this & never really measured things so had to come up with some kind of measurements. Put quite a bit of dressing on it , but don't make it swim in it.Refrigerate.
