This juice is a favorite at our place. I'll often double the batch and send a jar next door to my mother-in-law! I was looking for a way to sweeten lemonade without using more sugar when I came up with the recipe. -Wendy Masters, Grand Valley, Ontario

Ingredients

1-3/4 cups sugar
2-1/2 cups water
2 tablespoons grated lemon zest
2 tablespoons grated orange zest
1-1/2 cups lemon juice (about 10 lemons)
1-1/2 cups orange juice (about 5 oranges)
6 cups cold water

Steps:

In a large saucepan, combine sugar and 2-1/2 cups water; cook and stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Cool slightly., Stir in citrus zest and juices. Let stand, covered, 1 hour. Strain syrup; refrigerate, covered, until cold., To serve, fill glasses or pitcher with equal amounts of fruit syrup and water. Add ice and serve.

8 cups water, divided
¾ cup white sugar
1 fresh pineapple
1 ½ cups fresh squeezed lemon juice

Steps:

Combine 1 cup water and sugar in a saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer over medium-high heat, stirring often. Simmer until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and allow simple syrup to cool.
Cut off pineapple crown and remove the outer skin. Cut pineapple flesh into chunks and add to a high-capacity blender (such as Vitamix®). Pour in 2 cups water and blend until liquefied.
Pour liquefied pineapple juice into a pitcher. Add remaining water, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Stir before serving.

CITRUS SWEET LEMONADE

This is my dad's favorite juice to make. My dad's lemon tree has been around since before I can remember and he used to always buy oranges in order to make this drink almost every night. I don't know why I waited until now to finally ask him for the recipe. But here it is! Sometimes my dad mixes it up by adding some lime juice. Update: Just a note to myself for future experiments. There is a restaurant here called Tucano's that makes Brazilian Lemonade (lime lemonade). I learned a while ago from a former waitress that the secret ingredient is sweetened condensed milk. So in the future I'll try adding some. (They also offer flavors like Raspberry, Guava, Mango, Pineapple and Strawberry Brazilian Lemonade, so you might want to try other flavors in place of the orange.)

3 cups sugar
6 cups water
1 (12 ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate
1 (6 ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate
1 (12 ounce) can frozen pineapple juice concentrate
6 bananas, mashed

Steps:

Heat sugar and water in a large saucepan over medium heat until sugar is dissolved.
Put sugar syrup in a large bowl along with the juices and bananas and mix together.
Place in containers and freeze until solid.
Prior to serving remove from freezer and allow it to soften just enough so you can scoop it out.
Combine it with a lemon-lime soda to finish your slush.
Usually equal amounts of both but to your tastes.

½ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 packet sweetener of your choice, or to taste

Steps:

Core pineapple using a pineapple corer or slicer. Break up into chunks and measure out 2 cups. Save juices.
Combine 2 cups pineapple and juices, 2 cups water, and lemon juice in a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into a pitcher. Add remaining 2 cups water and sweetener. Stir and serve over ice.
