Even though i grew up eating these I never can seem to make them! I can make gourmet dinners and desserts but i can't make pralines or bread!! But i got this recipe from the justin wilson website and it's as authentic as you can get. Good luck!!

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 cups sugar
4 tablespoons corn syrup (light or dark, your preference)
14 ounces condensed milk
1 (14 ounce) can water, use milk can
1 teaspoon butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
4 -6 cups pecan halves, depends on how pecan like you want em

Steps:

  • Mix sugar, corn syrup, condensed milk, and water thoroughly. Cook over a low fire until the soft-boil stage, it'll say on your candy thermometer. Remove from heat.
  • Add butter, vanilla, and pecans. Beat until the mixture holds its shape. Spoon onto buttered wax paper, and allow to cool. Enjoy!

I had pralines in New Orleans and loved them, so I tried different combos and liked this one best.

1 ½ cups toasted pecans
1 ½ cups white sugar
¾ cup brown sugar
½ cup milk
⅜ cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  • Combine pecans, white sugar, brown sugar, milk, butter, and vanilla in a large saucepan over medium heat; bring to a boil. Do not stir once mixture begins to boil. Heat to 240 degrees F (115 degrees C) or until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms a soft ball that flattens when removed from water and placed on a flat surface.
  • Drop by spoonfuls onto the prepared baking sheet. Let cool completely.
