This recipe for beef stroganoff with round steak is one I spotted in a local hospital auxiliary cookbook. When I gave it a try, my husband loved it! And I've had lots of compliments every time I've served it. -Brenda Read, Burns Lake, British Columbia

Number Of Ingredients 15

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1-1/2 to 2 pounds boneless beef top round steak, trimmed and cut into thin strips
3 tablespoons butter
1 cup chopped onion
1 garlic clove, minced
1 can (10-1/2 ounces) condensed beef broth, undiluted
1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
3 tablespoons chili sauce
1 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
2 cups sour cream
Hot cooked noodles
Minced fresh parsley

Steps:

  • In a large resealable plastic bag, combine the flour, salt, paprika and pepper. Add beef; shake until well coated. , In a large skillet, melt butter. Brown beef in batches. Remove and keep warm. Add onion and garlic to the pan; cook until tender. Add the broth, mustard, chili sauce and mushrooms; return beef to the skillet. Cover and cook until the meat is tender, about 1 hour., Just before serving, stir in sour cream. Heat through, but do not boil. Serve over noodles. Garnish with parsley.

2 pounds boneless beef round steak (1/2 inch thick)
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 can (4 ounces) mushroom stems and pieces, drained
1 can (8 ounces) no-salt-added tomato sauce
Hot cooked noodles

Steps:

  • Trim beef; cut into serving-size pieces. Place in a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish. Sprinkle with pepper. Top with the onion, mushrooms and tomato sauce. Cover and bake at 325° for 1-3/4 to 2 hours or until meat is tender. Serve over noodles.

Round steak is not known for its tenderness. This recipe can be used over noodles, rice, cous cous and great over fried potato rounds. Slow cooking in the oven but you can use slow cooker also, just add two hours.Any tough cuts of meat can be used including pork.

3 -4 lbs beef round steak
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons flour or 3 tablespoons rice flour
2 tablespoons sugar or 2 tablespoons sweet ten liquid low-calorie sweetener
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons black pepper
1/4 teaspoon grams marsala
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
2 tablespoons white vinegar
2 1/2 cups water
3 tablespoons minced prepared garlic
3 -4 drops hot sauce, if desired See Note at bottom

Steps:

  • In covered dutch oven add oil oil.
  • Preheat oven to 325°F.
  • Cut off fat from round steaks, discard.
  • Cut in two inch long strips, then stack and cut in chunks.
  • Put in dutch oven. Brown on top of burner, medium heat, Turning a few times to coat and cook.
  • Note: Split the sugar, between wet and dry ingredients.
  • In mixing bowl add flour, sugar, salt, pepper, gram marsala, dry mustard, all spice and celery seed.Mix.
  • In another mixing bowl, add liquid sugar substitute, tomato sauce, vinegar, garlic, and water. Stir to blend.
  • Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, stirring.
  • Pour over browned meat.
  • Cover and cook in the oven about 2 hours May be necessary to add 1/4 cup water every hour.
  • Note: If you want to add hot sauce ie Tabasco or other brand, add right before serving and stir.
