Number Of Ingredients 4

1/2 teaspoon superfine sugar
1 1/2 ounces liquor (brandy, gin, rum, sherry or whiskey) or wine
2 or 3 ice cubes
Nutmeg

Steps:

  • Put sugar in a small tumbler with just enough water to dissolve. Add the liquor or wine and ice, stir well and top with a little grated nutmeg. The drink may be varied by adding club soda to fill a large tumbler and floating 3 tablespoons of port on top, followed by the usual dusting of nutmeg.

Ice
2 ounces amontillado sherry
1 tablespoon honey liqueur (recommended: Baerenjaeger)
Strip fresh orange zest
Mace blades or pinch ground mace, or freshly ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • Fill a cocktail shaker or small pitcher with ice. Add the sherry and honey liqueur. Cover and shake vigorously until thoroughly mixed and chilled, about 30 seconds. (In general, the drink is ready by the time the shaker mists up.) Strain into sherry copitas or cordial glass. Garnish with the orange and a pinch of spice. Drink.
  • Serving suggestions: sherry copitas or cordial glass.
