Perfect for cold nights, this masala chai tea recipe incorporates spices that make it so delicious, you'll want to drink it every day. -Kelly Pacowta, Danbury, Connecticut

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 whole cloves
2 whole peppercorns
4 tea bags
4 teaspoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1 cinnamon stick (3 inches)
2-1/2 cups boiling water
2 cups 2% milk

Steps:

  • Place cloves and peppercorns in a large bowl; with the end of a wooden spoon handle, crush spices until aromas are released., Add the tea bags, sugar, ginger, cinnamon stick and boiling water. Cover and steep for 6 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, heat the milk., Strain tea, discarding spices and tea bags. Stir in hot milk. Pour into mugs.

This tea is used in the Middle East most often after a woman gives birth, believe it or not. Perhaps it's an old wives tale, but it is believed that this tea helps a woman's body recover more quickly after she has given birth. I wouldnt necessarily discount its healing ability, after all a lot of herbs and spices have been and are used in homeopathic healing remedies. Even so this tea is a tasty tea for all to drink.

3 -4 cups water
1 cinnamon stick
sugar
chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Combine water and cinnamon together in a teapot or any kind that is suitable.
  • Bring to a rolling boil for about 5 minutes.
  • Pour into tea cups, add sugar to taste and top with walnuts.
  • Enjoy!

2 cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon cardamom pods
½ teaspoon whole clove
½ teaspoon fennel seeds
1 inch piece fresh ginger
2 cups whole milk
1 tablespoon honey
2 bags decaf black tea
cinnamon powder

Steps:

  • Add 2 Cinnamon sticks, 1 tsp Cardamom Pods, ½ tsp whole Cloves, ½ Fennel Seeds, 1 inch sliced fresh Ginger in a cloth bag. Tie the cloth bag properly.
  • Add 2 cups of whole milk and 1-2 tbsp honey to a saucepan
  • Whisk it well for 10 sec
  • Steep 2 bags of decaf black tea bags and cloth bag mixture in the warm milk for 10 minutes
  • Take out the tea bags and froth the milk by whisking for 2-3 minutes
  • Pour into a mug and add a pinch of Cinnamon powder
  • Serve immediately
  • Enjoy!

Chai tea has been a favorite refreshment in India for centuries. Essentially a blend of tea, ground spices, honey, and milk, it can be enjoyed hot or cold. Our version, which replaces cow's milk with soy milk, is served hot.

3 cups water
10 whole green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
5 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
2-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and quartered
1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise and scraped
1/3 cup honey
4 black tea bags, such as English Breakfast
1 1/2 cups soy milk

Steps:

  • Place the water in a small saucepan, and add cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and vanilla bean and scrapings. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low, and simmer until mixture is aromatic, about 15 minutes. Whisk in honey, and drop tea bags in pan; turn off heat, and let steep 3 minutes.
  • Strain tea through a fine strainer or a coffee filter into a warmed serving pot. Heat soy milk in same saucepan over medium-high heat, about 3 minutes; do not let it come to a boil or it will separate. Pour into serving pot with the tea, and stir well to combine. Serve immediately.
