SLOW COOKER MULLED WINE



Slow cooker mulled wine image

The gentle, even heat from a slow cooker means the mulled wine doesn't boil and the flavours stay fresh, leave it to heat while you eat, drink and be merry!

2 x 750ml bottles red wine
100ml Cointreau
peeled zest and juice of 2 large oranges
pared zest of 1 lemon
120g golden caster sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
3 star anise
4 cloves
slices of orange

Steps:

  • Put all the ingredients (except the slices of orange) in a slow cooker on low for 1 1/2 - 2hrs until hot. Ladle into heatproof glasses and serve with slices of orange. Using the 'keep warm' setting (if your cooker has one) will ensure the mulled wine stays hot during the party.

4 cloves
3 whole star anise
2 cinnamon sticks
1 bottle red wine
1/4 cup sugar, optional (depending on sweetness of wine)
2 strips orange zest, removed with a vegetable peeler
1 1/2 cups orange juice, freshly squeezed and strained, or store-bought
1 small sprig rosemary, plus sprigs for garnish

Steps:

  • Wrap the cloves, star anise and cinnamon in a small square of cheesecloth and secure it with kitchen twine.
  • Combine the wine, sugar if using, orange zest, orange juice, rosemary and the spice pouch in a slow cooker. Cook on low heat until hot, about 1 hour. Adjust the slow cooker to the "warm" setting. Serve in mugs with a rosemary sprig as garnish.

2 cinnamon sticks (3 inches)
6 whole cloves
1 fresh rosemary sprig
1 bottle (750 milliliters) cabernet sauvignon or other dry red wine
1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup bourbon
1/3 cup orange juice
4 teaspoons grated orange zest

Steps:

  • Place cinnamon sticks, cloves and rosemary on a double thickness of cheesecloth; bring up corners of cloth and tie with string to form a bag., In a 1-1/2-qt. slow cooker, combine the wine, cranberries, sugar, bourbon, orange juice and zest. Add spice bag. Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or until heated through. Discard spice bag. Serve warm.
