1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 teaspoons olive oil
2 medium onions, halved and cut into 1/4-inch slices
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 tablespoons sweet paprika
1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)
1 cup Progresso™ chicken broth (from 32-oz carton)
2 tablespoons cornstarch

Cook over medium heat 1 minute, scraping up any browned bits on bottom of skillet with wooden spoon. Transfer to slow cooker. Cover; cook on Low heat setting 5 to 6 hours or until juice of chicken is clear when thickest part is cut to bone (at least 165°F).
  • Transfer chicken to serving platter and keep warm. Increase to High heat setting.
  • In small bowl, beat cornstarch and water with whisk until smooth. Beat into cooking liquid in slow cooker. Cover; cook about 15 minutes or until sauce is thickened. Beat sour cream into cooking liquid in slow cooker with whisk. Cover; cook about 5 minutes or until hot.

SLOW COOKER CHICKEN PAPRIKASH

Slow Cooker Chicken Paprikash image

So very easy and tastes great! Found this in Cooking Light magazine. Note: you can also add 1-8oz package of pre-sliced mushrooms, we just don't care for them and so took it out the recipe. Chicken comes out so soft it just falls apart, although the sauce may need to be thickened slightly. I serve with white rice, basmatti rice, or couscous. Also it freezes well if you would like to enjoy your leftovers at a later date. Enjoy!

Time 8h20m

Yield 6 cups, 6 serving(s)

2 teaspoons garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground is best

  • In the sauté pan, melt the butter and add the canola oil. Sauté the onions and garlic over medium heat until the onions are soft and glistening. Add the tomato paste, paprika, and crushed red pepper. Stir and add the sliced mushrooms. Cook until the mushrooms have softened slightly, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Line the bottom of the slow cooker with the chicken thighs, layering as necessary. Sprinkle on some kosher salt and a few grinds of fresh black pepper, and then the marjoram. Transfer the cooked onion and mushrooms to the slow cooker, covering the chicken with it. Add the chicken stock and put the lid on top.
  • Select the Auto setting on your slow cooker and cook for about 6 hours. If your slow cooker does not have an auto setting, you can cook on High for 2 hours then Low for 4 hours, or you can cook on Low for 7 to 8 hours. The chicken will be very tender and possibly falling off the bone.
  • Remove the chicken pieces, place them on a warm plate, and cover. In the small bowl, whisk together the sour cream and cornstarch. Add a couple tablespoons of the sauce to the sour cream mixture and stir. In the slow cooker, whisk in a few tablespoons of the sour cream mixture at a time until the sour cream is dissolved. Put the chicken pieces back in and cover with the lid. Cook on high for about 30 minutes more.

CROCK POT PAPRIKA CHICKEN WITH DUMPLINGS
2004-12-11 In this recipe, you'll cook the chicken breasts in a slow cooker for about six hours. They're seasoned with Hungarian sweet paprika, salt, and pepper, while chopped onions bring some flavorful veggies into the mix. The sauce becomes a savory delight when sour cream is added. To thicken the sauce, cornstarch is blended into the sour cream. Be sure to do this in a separate bowl; lumps will form if cornstarch is added directly to the hot liquid in the slow cooker.
