Categories     Cookies & Bars

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
1 cup light brown sugar (firmly packed)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large egg yolks
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1 8-oz. pkg. Heath milk chocolate toffee bits (divided)
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9 x 13-inch baking dish with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, vanilla and egg yolks on low speed until smooth.
  • Add the flour, salt and 1 cup Heath toffee bits and stir until just combined. The mixture will be thick and crumbly.
  • Empty mixture into the prepared baking dish and press it out evenly using wet fingers. Bake for 25 minutes, until golden.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Let sit for 5 minutes, then spread evenly using an offset spatula. Sprinkle with the remaining Heath toffee bits.
  • Cool completely then refrigerate for 20 minutes to allow the chocolate to set up. Lift from the pan using the parchment paper onto a cutting board, then cut into squares and serve.

HOMEMADE HEATH BARS

Homemade Heath Bars image

Homemade Heath Bars are a great make at home candy.

Categories     Candy

Time 3h20m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 tablespoon plus 2 cups butter, at room temperature, divided
2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Grease a 15-in. x 10-inch pan with 1 tablespoon butter and set aside. ( I use my silpat mat here for lining the pan and it works great.)
  • In a large pan, melt the remaining butter. Add the sugar, corn syrup and salt. And cook and stir over medium heat until a candy thermometer reads 295 degrees. This is hard-crack stage. Be careful doing this part because it is hot and you don't want to burn yourself.
  • Quickly, and I do mean quickly before it hardens, pour into 15 x10 inch pan.
  • Let stand at room temperature until completely cooled and hardened. This will take about 2 hrs.
  • In a microwave, melt chocolate chips on 50% power, stirring every 30 seconds until melted. Spread over toffee.
  • Let stand for 1 hour, you can also put this in the fridge to harden the chocolate up.
  • Break into bite-size pieces. Store in an airtight container.
  • Enjoy!

HOMEMADE HEATH BARS

Homemade Heath Bars image

Everyone loves these...the surprise is how much they taste like real Heath Bars, especially when using saltine crackers for the base!

Provided by Terri Westberry

Categories     Chocolate

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 pkg saltine crackers
1 c butter, cold
1 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1 pkg chocolate chips

Steps:

  • 1. Line a jelly roll pan with aluminum foil. Place crackers in a solid cover with crackers touching. Melt butter and brown sugar; bring to a boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly so it doesn't scorch. Slowly pour over crackers, spreading quickly to cover all. Bake for 5 minutes in oven at 400F. Watch carefully to avoid burning! Remove from oven and cool for about 5 minutes. Pour chocolate chips over top spreading as evenly as possible. Let them melt and then spread with a spatula. I use sprinkles or colored sugar to decorate. Score with pizza cutter, place in refrigerator until completely cooled. Remove from foil and break into pieces to serve.
  • 2. Note: Be very careful not to get the butter/sugar mixture on your skin. It is very sticky and will adhere to your skin and burn!
