Skip the prefab dips in the market; this homemade version calls for caramelized Vidalia onions and reduced-fat sour cream and cream cheese for all the flavor you love with less guilt.

1 tablespoon olive oil
2 Vidalia onions (1 pound total), finely chopped
Coarse salt and ground pepper
1 cup reduced-fat sour cream
2 ounces reduced-fat bar cream cheese, room temperature
1 1/2 teaspoons white-wine vinegar
1/4 cup finely chopped chives
Potato chips, for serving

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, heat oil over medium. Add onions; season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, until golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes. Let cool to room temperature.
  • In a medium bowl, combine onions, sour cream, cream cheese, vinegar, and chives; season with salt and pepper. Chill dip until slightly thickened, about 1 hour; or cover and refrigerate up to 2 days. Serve with chips.

1 cup small diced sweet onion
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
Baguette (crackers or chips, for serving)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a medium bowl, stir together the cream cheese, mayonnaise, onion, Parmesan cheese and black pepper until completely combined.
  • Transfer to a small baking dish and bake until the top is deep golden brown, 45 to 55 minutes. Serve hot with baguette slices, crackers, pretzels or tortilla chips.

3 large sweet onions, thinly sliced
1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
2 cups shredded Swiss cheese (8 oz)
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 cup regular or reduced-fat mayonnaise
Food Should Taste Good™ sweet potato tortilla chips, as desired

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F. Lightly spray 1 1/2- to 2-quart casserole with cooking spray.
  • In 12-inch skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Cook onions in butter 30 to 40 minutes, stirring often, until caramel colored.
  • In large bowl, mix cheeses, mayonnaise and onions. Spoon into casserole.
  • Bake uncovered 30 minutes or until golden and bubbly. Serve with sweet potato chips.

3 cups vidalia onions (diced) or 3 cups sweet onions (diced)
2 cups swiss cheese (shredded)
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese (softened)
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon parsley (chopped)
1 teaspoon chives (chopped)
1 cup Miracle Whip
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 cup fresh grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Cook Onions in the microwave a few minutes until they appear clear or translucent.
  • Mix all ingredients (except the topping) in a large bowl and add onions.
  • Mix well.
  • Pour mixture into a 2 quart Casserole Dish (Buttered or Sprayed with Pam). Add Topping.
  • Bake in a 350° Preheated oven for 30 minutes or until bubbly.
  • **You can add Crumbled Bacon to this recipe and it's even better!
  • Serve with Tostado's or Ruffles Dip Chips.
  • Can be served hot or cold.

A lighter onion dip that tastes fabulous. Serve it with pretzels or raw veggies. Since I only make this dip with the fabulous Texas 1015 sweet onions, this recipe must be a Southwestern U.S. recipe.

1 (8 ounce) package light cream cheese (Neufchatel)
1/2 cup low-fat sour cream
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 cup chopped sweet onion
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
3 green onions, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • Stir cream cheese and sour cream in a medium bowl until blended.
  • Heat oil in a medium skillet.
  • Add onion, salt and pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, 8 minutes or until onion is soft, but not browned.
  • Let cool completely.
  • Stir into cream cheese mixture along with sliced green onion.
  • Cover and refrigerate at least 30 minutes for flavors to blend.
  • It's best if chilled over night.
