FROSTED TEXAS BROWNIES

Frosted Texas Brownies image

This chocoholic's favorite brownie. The recipe was shared with me by an ex-MIL over 25 years ago. Good recipes, unlike marriages, never die.

Provided by sugarpea

Categories     Bar Cookie

Time 30m

Yield 1 11x17 pan of brownies, 48 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 16

2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup water
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 dash salt
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs, beaten
4 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 cup butter
6 tablespoons milk
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
3 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Steps:

  • Brownie: Preheat oven to 400°; grease an 11" x 17" jelly roll pan.
  • Mix sugar and flour in a bowl; in a saucepan bring to boil the butter, shortening, water, cocoa and salt; pour cocoa mixture over flour mixture and stir until combined.
  • Beat in buttermilk, baking soda, eggs and vanilla; pour into baking pan and bake for 15 minutes, until center is barely set; DO NOT OVERBAKE; the center of the brownie will be slightly puffed but, if not overbaked, will fall when cool.
  • Frosting: Prepare the frosting while the brownie bakes; in same saucepan, bring to boil the butter, milk and cocoa; remove from heat and stir in confectioners' sugar and vanilla; stir until smooth.
  • Pour and spread over the brownie immediately after removing it from the oven; cool and refrigerate.

KATHARINE HEPBURN'S BROWNIES

Katharine Hepburn's Brownies image

Much like its author, this recipe is a no-fuss classic. It calls for just 1/4 cup of flour, which yields an incredibly rich and gooey brownie, and it's super easy to make. So easy, in fact, that baking a batch of these might just become part of your weekend routine.

Provided by The New York Times

Categories     easy, dessert

Time 1h

Yield 12 brownies

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)

ABSOLUTELY BEST BROWNIES

Absolutely Best Brownies image

This are the easiest and most delicious brownies that I have ever eaten. They are so moist and super quick and easy to make. For best results, use a Dutch processed cocoa. For less cake-like brownies, use all-purpose flour instead of self rising.

TEXAS BROWNIES

Texas Brownies image

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup applesauce lightly sweetened
2 tablespoons cream cheese fat free
3 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups oat flour (blend dry oats in blender)
1/3 cup chopped (optional)

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees. In a large saucepan, over low heat, melt together 1 cup chocolate chips, sugar, applesauce, and cream cheese. Remove from heat. Stir in egg whites, baking soda, salt and vanilla. Blend well. Mix in remaining chocolate chips and the flour. (If nuts are added, they increase the fat grams by 1 and the calories by 12 per brownie. They are still only 24 percent fat.) Pour mixture into a nonstick cooking-sprayed 13" x 9" pan. Bake 16 to 20 minutes or until just set. Cool completely before cutting. Cut into 20 squares and serve with vanilla ice milk! These brownies are not a fat-loss choice but are a delicious "coasting" choice, much healthier and lower in fat than other brownies. *This is not a diabetic recipe.
