this is exactly like the blue moon ice cream that can be found in northern michigan at kilwins. Its also the same that i used to have in the summers as a kid in the 70's. there isn't any pineapple or alcohol in this!!

1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup half-and-half
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract or 1/2 teaspoon vanilla oil
1 1/2 cups whipping cream
1/8 teaspoon blue food coloring
3 teaspoons vanilla pudding mix
1 teaspoon raspberry flavored oil or 1 cup frozen raspberries, pureed
1 teaspoon lemon flavored oil or 1 teaspoon lemon extract

Steps:

  • 1/2 Cup of milk scalded in pan.
  • add 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/4 tsp of salt. stir till dissolved.
  • add 1/2 cup of half and half.
  • add 11/2 cups of heavy whipping cream.
  • add vanilla, raspberry, lemon flavoring.
  • add blue food coloring.
  • chill in fridge till very cold.
  • put in ice cream machine!

There are many different theories about how this famous ice cream should be made. Nobody knows for sure because the recipe has always been secret. This is my version. I don't know if it's an exact duplicate but we love it this way. When you're finished, it should be sort of the color of smurfs so add food coloring until you acheive smurf blue. I use 40 drops. Splenda lovers- this will not turn out the same with splenda. I love it and sometimes I use it anyway but it does NOT give the same creamy consistency as regular sugar does. I don't know why but it just doesn't.

1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon raspberry extract
40 drops blue food coloring

Steps:

  • Stir all of the ingredients together. Stir until sugar disolves. Pour into your ice cream freezer and proceed according to the directions for your ice cream maker. Don't tell anyone you're making it. They'll totally inhale this and you won't get any. Hide it!

Blue Moon Ice Cream Recipe - (4/5) image

1 c whole milk
1/2 c granulated sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 c heavy whipping cream
1 Tbsp vanilla pudding mix
1 tsp raspberry extract
1 tsp lemon extract
1/8 tsp blue food coloring

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan, heat the whole milk over medium heat to scalding. Add the sugar and salt, stir until completely dissolved. Add the heavy cream and vanilla pudding mix; stir until pudding mix has been blended. Remove from the heat. Add in the vanilla, raspberry, and lemon extracts. Add the blue food coloring; stir to blend well and get a consistent blue color. Transfer the mixture to a container and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 - 3 hours. Once cold, pour mixture into your ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer's directions.
