PRISCILLA'S VEGETABLE CHOWDER
Steps:
- In a Dutch oven, combine the potatoes, broccoli, onion, carrots, celery, bouillon and water; simmer for 20 minutes or until vegetables are tender. , In a large saucepan, melt butter; stir in flour. Cook and stir over medium heat for 2 minutes. Whisk in the milk, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Add to vegetable mixture with the ham; simmer 10 minutes or until heated through. Stir in cheese just until melted.

- Cut thin 2-inch-round slice from tops of rolls. Remove bread from inside of each roll, leaving 1/2-inch shell on side and bottom. (Reserve bread trimmings for another use.)
- Heat soup, vegetables and beans in 3-quart saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, 8 to 10 minutes until vegetables are tender and soup is hot.
- Fill soup bowls one-third full with soup. Place rolls on top of soup. Spoon additional soup into rolls, allowing some soup to overflow into bowls.

- In a Dutch oven or soup kettle, saute the pepper and onions in butter or margarine until tender.
- Add remaining vegetables, water, bouillon, salt, and pepper; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer covered for 20 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
- Combine flour and milk until smooth; stir into pan. Bring soup to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes. Mix in the parsley. Just before serving, stir in the cheese until melted.

- In a 4- or 5-qt. slow cooker, combine the first 11 ingredients. Cook, covered, on low 8-9 hours or until vegetables are tender., In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water until smooth. Stir into stew. Cook, covered, on high 30 minutes or until thickened., Cut a thin slice off the top of each roll. Hollow out rolls, leaving 1/2-in.-thick shells (save removed bread for another use). Serve stew in bread bowls.
