I've experimented with a bunch of fruit-tea combinations and this is by far my favorite! It's so great when you want a sweet but healthy treat for those hot summer days. The secret is to use frozen watermelon instead of ice cubes so it won't water down the flavor of the drink(useful in all fruit- based drinks). I made mine as a bubble tea (with the large tapioca pearls) but this smoothie is just as good alone. And your kids will lovee this, especially if they love watermelon.

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
2 -3 black tea bags
1 1/2 cups frozen watermelon, cubes
1 -2 teaspoon sugar (optional)

Steps:

  • Place watermelon cubes in freezer until frozen (a few hours). Or if you don't want the drink as cold/more slushy just use unfrozen watermelon
  • Make the tea by mixing water and milk. Pour this in a micoravable cup and microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds. (You can use more water instead of milk or vice versa depending on preferences). Use 2-3 teabags depending on how strong you want your tea. Then put this in the refrigerator until its cold.
  • When all ingredients are ready, place in a blender. This is where you would add sugar if you want (ie. If the watermelon isn't sweet). Or you can wait until its blended to taste, then add sugar if needed.
  • *Can also add large tapioca pearls to the bottom of the cup if you want (how I prefer it) to make it bubble tea c:.
  • *I would reccomend freezing more watermelon and making more tea for if you want some later, so you don't have to go through freezing watermelon and making the tea again. I just set aside a large portion of watermelon to freeze it for this purpose.

I'm always tossing watermelon with fresh mint, so I decided to see how the two would blend in a smoothie. The result is like a cross between a sweet mint tea and a watermelon agua fresca.

2 cups, tightly packed, diced seedless watermelon
1 tablespoon fresh mint leaves
1 teaspoon sugar, agave syrup or vanilla sugar
3 to 4 ice cubes (more to taste)
Watermelon balls for garnish

Steps:

  • Place all of the ingredients except the watermelon balls in the blender. Blend until frothy, about one minute. Pour into a glass, and garnish with watermelon balls. Serve right away.

This cooling and naturally sweet smoothie makes a great snack or breakfast. Soy milk or rice milk can be substituted for the almond milk if necessary.

3 tablespoons wheat germ
¾ cup almond milk

Steps:

  • Place the banana, honeydew melon, blackberries, wheat germ, and almond milk into a blender. Cover, and puree until smooth.
  • Divide ice cubes into two tall glasses, and pour the smoothie over the ice.
