These chewy squares ooze brown sugary butterscotch. They becrumb the lips and besmear the chin, like home-baked goodies should.

1 cup butter, melted
2 cups packed light brown sugar
3 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 cup chopped walnuts
2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
2 tablespoons water
½ cup butter, softened
3 cups sifted confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Grease an 11x7x2-inch pan.
  • Melt 1 cup butter in a large saucepan. Add 2 cups light brown sugar and beat well to mix. Cool the mixture slightly, then beat in eggs and vanilla.
  • Sift together all-purpose flour, salt and baking powder. Stir it into the wet ingredients, then add the walnuts or pecans (see Cook's Note). Mix well.
  • Spread batter into prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a light gold. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out of pan and let brownies finish cooling on a rack.
  • To Make Frosting: Dissolve coffee in the water. Cream 1/2 cup butter with confectioner's sugar. Beat it until light. Blend the coffee into sugar mixture and spread frosting over the brownies. When frosting has set, cut brownies into squares. Enjoy!

4 squares unsweetened chocolate
3/4 cup margarine
1 1/4 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 cup wheat germ
2 cups sugar
3 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts

Steps:

  • Melt together chocolate and margarine. Set aside to cool.
  • In large bowl combine next 5 ingredients. Mix well. Stir in melted chocolate mixture, eggs, vanilla. Mix well. Fold in nuts.
  • Grease a 13x9x2-inch pan, spread in pan and bake in 350 degrees F oven for 30 minutes. Do not over bake. Cool and cut into squares. They are best the next day.

1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1/4 cup chopped nuts
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup popped popcorn, finely ground and kernels discarded
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Butter an 8-inch-square baking pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a large bowl, stir together brown sugar, oil, and egg until smooth. Mix in nuts and vanilla. In a small bowl, mix together the ground popcorn, baking powder, and salt. Add popcorn mixture to the batter, stirring well. Spread evenly in the buttered pan. Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cut into squares while warm.

1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ devil's food cake mix
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
1/3 cup butterscotch chips
2 tablespoons unsweetened baking cocoa

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Line 8- or 9-inch square pan with foil, extending foil over 2 opposite sides of pan.
  • In medium bowl, stir together cake mix, melted butter and three-fourths of the condensed milk. Press half of the dough in bottom of pan. Bake about 6 minutes or until top just begins to set.
  • Meanwhile, turn remaining half of dough onto 10-inch square piece of foil; press dough into square slightly smaller than pan.
  • Drizzle remaining condensed milk over brownie base; sprinkle with butterscotch chips. Carefully place pressed-out dough in pan.
  • Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted 2 inches from side of pan comes out almost clean. Cool in pan on cooling rack at least 1 hour.
  • Use foil to lift brownie from pan. Sprinkle with cocoa. Cut into 3 rows by 3 rows.

½ teaspoon salt
1 (11 ounce) package butterscotch chips (Nestle® Toll House®)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 10x13-inch baking dish.
  • Beat cream cheese, 1/3 cup sugar, and 1 egg together in a bowl using an electric mixer until smooth.
  • Mix water, cocoa powder, and butter together in a saucepan; heat over medium-low heat until melted, about 5 minutes.
  • Combine flour, remaining 2 cups sugar, 2 eggs, sour cream, baking soda, vanilla extract, and salt in a large bowl. Beat chocolate mixture into flour mixture until batter is smooth; spread into the prepared baking dish. Spoon cream mixture over batter and run a knife through the cream cheese mixture to spread into a marbled pattern. Sprinkle butterscotch chips over top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the top is dry and the edges have started to pull away from the sides of the pan, about 35 minutes.

1 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup unbleached white flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
6 tablespoons melted butter
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1/3 cup butter
3/4 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Steps:

  • Bottom layer: Mix together wheat germ, flour, brown sugar, melted butter.
  • Spread mixture evenly into bottom of greased and floured 9"x9" baking pan.
  • Set aside.
  • Top layer:Melt butter and chocolate over very low heat.
  • Remove from heat, beat together with sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  • Add dry ingredients and mix.
  • Spread over bottom layer.
  • Bake at 350 degrees 25-30 minutes.
  • Cool, slice into squares.
