You can use your favorite brandy or whiskey (bourbon). You can also make this sweet or sour to your liking by using 50/50 or 7-Up. I've heard that this is a "regional" drink, because it's not as common outside of our state!

Ingredients

2 -3 ounces brandy or 2 -3 ounces whiskey
1 sugar cube (or 1 tsp. super-fine sugar)
2 -3 dashes Angostura bitters
sweet and sour soda (50/50 or Squirt brand) or carbonated lemon-lime beverage (7-Up)
1 pineapple chunk
1 maraschino cherry
3 manzanilla olives, pickled Brussel sprouts or 3 dilly beans

Steps:

Place the sugar cube and bitters into an old fashioned glass (8-12 oz. tumbler style glass) and muddle together with a spoon or muddler. (We prefer to use the super-fine sugar because you can stir it all together without muddling.).
Add some ice, to your liking.
Add the brandy or whiskey.
Top off the glass with either 50/50 soda or 7-up (sour or sweet!).
Garnish as described above.

1 orange slice
1 maraschino cherry
1-1/2 ounces maraschino cherry juice
1 teaspoon bitters
1/4 to 1/3 cup ice cubes
1-1/2 ounces brandy
2 teaspoons water
1 teaspoon orange juice
3 ounces lemon-lime soda

Steps:

In a rocks glass, muddle orange slice, cherry, cherry juice and bitters. Add ice. Pour in the brandy, water, orange juice and soda.

½ cup water
½ cup sugar
Outer peel from ½ an orange
1 750 ml bottle of brandy (such as Korbel or E&J)
1 ounce orange infused simple syrup
10 dashes Angostura bitters
½ cup cold water
7- up or Squirt for serving
Cherries and oranges for garnish

Steps:

In a small saucepan, combine the water, sugar, and orange peels. Be sure to only use the very outer peel, or the syrup may become bitter.
Over medium heat and stirring frequently, heat the mixture through until the sugar dissolves completely.
Remove from heat and allow the simple syrup to cool slightly, leaving the orange peels to steep.
Discard the orange peels and pour the syrup into a jar or other air-tight container.
In a liter bottle, quart-sized mason jar, or pitcher, combine the brandy, 1 ounce of the orange simple syrup (about 2 tablespoons), the bitters, and water.
Taste and add more bitters if desired.
Add ice to a rocks glass, then add 2-2.5 ounces of the Brandy Old Fashioned base.
Add a splash of 7up (sweet) or Squirt (sour).
Garnish with an orange slice and a cherry.
