Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/2 cups flour (I use the kind labeled "Better For Bread")
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/2 cups shredded yellow squash (I shred it in the Food Processor)

Steps:

  • Combine the Flour, Baking Powder, Baking Soda, Salt and Cinnamon in a Medium bowl.
  • Combine the Eggs, Sugar, Oil and Vanilla in a separate LARGE bowl.
  • Beat well. ( I use a hand mixer).
  • Stir in the Shredded Yellow Summer Squash.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the Squash mixture.
  • Stir until moistened.
  • Pour or spoon into a greased and floured loaf pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F for 50 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool for about 10 to 15 minutes and remove from pan.

1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
1 teaspoon white sugar
3 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
8 ½ cups all-purpose flour, divided
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons curry powder
2 teaspoons ground turmeric
¾ cup clarified butter, divided

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together 4 1/2 cups flour, salt, curry powder and turmeric. Make a well in the center of flour mixture. Pour in yeast mixture and 1/2 cup clarified butter. Stir in the remaining 4 cups flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a stiff dough is formed. When the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
  • Grease a bowl with remaining clarified butter, place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with butter. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 4 hours.
  • After 4 hours punch dough down, flip over and let rise for 2 more hours.
  • Deflate the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough into two equal pieces and form into loaves. Place the loaves into two lightly greased 9x5 inch loaf pans. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Bake dough in preheated oven for 45 to 60 minutes, until loaves are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.

This recipe makes 2 loaves of the best sweet bread. We eat it for dessert.Or with our morning coffee. Its my father-in-law's favorite. He says it's more cake than bread. Freezes wonderfully for those last-minute guests. Enjoy!

1 (18 1/4 ounce) box yellow cake mix
1 (3 1/2 ounce) box instant vanilla pudding
4 eggs
3/4 cup water
3/4 cup oil
1 teaspoon butter flavor extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Beat cake mix, pudding, eggs, oil, water and extracts together for 8 minutes.
  • Mix sugar and cinnamon together; set aside.
  • Pam spray loaf pans.
  • Pour 2/3 batter into pans equally.
  • Pour cinnamon mixture equally over both loaves.
  • Using a knife swirl cinnamon through batter.
  • Top with remaining batter equally over both.
  • Bake at 350°F for 1 hour.

It is an Italian tradition to make this sweet, golden braid at Easter. This family heirloom recipe came from my mother-in-law and was passed down to her from her mother. If you're not a fan of raisins, the bread is just as wonderful without them. -Kathi West, Canton, Michigan

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 packages (1/4 ounce each) active dry yeast
3 tablespoons warm water (110° to 115°)
1-1/3 cups warm milk (110° to 115°)
2/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup butter, softened
1-1/4 teaspoons salt
2 large eggs
3 teaspoons anise extract
6 to 6-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup raisins
1 large egg white, beaten
1 tablespoon water

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add the milk, sugar, butter and salt; mix well. Add eggs, extract and 2 cups flour; beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. , Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour. , Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; sprinkle with raisins and knead in. Divide in half. Divide each portion into thirds. Shape each into a 14-in. rope. Place three ropes on a greased baking sheet, and braid; pinch ends to seal and tuck under. Repeat with remaining dough. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 45 minutes., Whisk egg white and water; brush over braids. Bake at 325° for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.
