OMA'S APFELKUCHEN (GRANDMA'S APPLE CAKE)
My husband's German family calls this Oma's apfelkuchen, which translates to "Grandma's apple cake." They've been sharing the recipe for more than 150 years. I use Granny Smith apples, but any variety works. -Amy Kirchen, Loveland, Ohio

- Preheat oven to 350°. Let egg yolks stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Starting 1/2 in. from 1 end, cut apple halves lengthwise into 1/4-in. slices, leaving them attached at the top so they fan out slightly. Set aside., Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Add egg yolks, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. In another bowl, sift flour, cornstarch, cream of tartar, baking powder and salt twice. Gradually beat into creamed mixture. Add milk; mix well (batter will be thick)., Spread batter into a greased 9-in. springform pan wrapped in a sheet of heavy-duty foil. Gently press apples, round side up, into batter. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs, 45-55 minutes. Cool on a wire rack 10 minutes. Loosen sides from pan with a knife; remove foil. Cool 1 hour longer. Remove rim from pan. Dust with confectioners' sugar.

- Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Spray a 9x13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
- Combine flour, sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, salt, baking soda, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a large bowl; mix well.
- Stir in the chopped apples until just combined.
- Pour batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 1 hour.

AMY'S APPLE BUNDT CAKE
I got this cake recipe from my grand-daughter Amy. It is very moist and damn good with a cup of coffee. Note: I reduce oil to 1/4 cup and increase apple sauce to 3/4 cup. You can also use Splenda for Baking (use 3/4 splenda for baking, instead of the 1 1/2 cups sugar).

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees; Grease bundt pan with butter, then dust with the 1 teaspoon flour, tapping out access, and set pan aside.
- Sift the 2 cups flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, soda, and salt together into a large bowl.
- Add oil, applesauce, and eggs and stir until combined.
- Add apples and nuts, gently stir into batter.
- Pour batter into prepared bundt pan and smooth out with a rubber spatula.
- Bake until toothpick comes out clean, about 1 hour; set cake aside to cool for 15 to 20 minutes, then invert onto a cooling rack to cool completley.
- I like to make a powdered sugar glaze using Orange Juice for the liquid to go on the top of cake, Serve warm or at room temperature, Enjoy.
