- S-L-O-W-L-Y add sugar and oil, combining each time.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, soda, and cinnamon.
- Add to egg mixture, mixing well by hand.
- Add the rest of the ingredients and blend very well.
- Bake in an ungreased pan for 1 1/4 hours.

- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease and flour one 9 or 10 inch tube pan.
- In a large bowl cream the butter or margarine with the sugar. Beat in the eggs then add the water and the vanilla.
- Stir the flour, cocoa, baking soda, ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg together. Beat this mixture into the creamed mixture. Stir in the chopped apples and the semisweet chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until the cake tests done when a toothpick is inserted near the center. Transfer to a rack to cool. Makes about 16 servings.

This is a delicious, moist cake that my mother has made for years. I don't know the cake's real name, but it is delectable. I have yet to meet a person who does not like this cake. This cake is so good, it doesn't need icing!

Steps:
- Peel, core and slice apples to desired size (I prefer a little thinner than apple pie slices).
- Grease well a 9x13 cake pan or an angel food cake pan.
- Stir flour, sugar, oil, eggs, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and vanilla in a large bowl.
- Stir in apples and chocolate chips.
- Pour batter, which will be very thick and lumpy, into pan.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour.
- Let cool.
- Store in an air-tight container or cover with saran wrap.
- ***Tips*** if using an angel food cake pan, be very careful when removing it from the pan, it sometimes falls apart. if using a regular cake pan, serve right from the pan. ***If cake seems to be a little dry, place slices of apples on the top of the cake until you are ready to serve.
CHOCOLATE CHIP APPLESAUCE CAKE - SUPER MOIST!
Super moist, easy and doesn't need icing. I've had many people request this recipe and have had it described as "the best chocolate cake I've ever eaten." To make this healthier, I change the applesauce amount to 2 1/4 c. and use only 1/4 c. of oil.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Beat sugar, oil, eggs, and applesauce.
- Add flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, and cocoa. Beat well.
- Pour into 9x13 inch pan.
- Bake at 375 degree F oven for 15 minutes.
- Remove cake and sprinkle chocolate chips over the top.
- Return to oven and bake 15-25 minutes longer.
- Does not need icing.
- ENJOY!
