Apple Cream Cheese Bars are dessert bars full of sweetened apples and a cream cheese layer, topped and baked with oatmeal crumble and drizzled with caramel sauce.

1 cup (80g) quick-cooking oats
3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
2 cups (400g) packed brown sugar
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1½ cups (3 sticks or 340g) butter, (melted)
2 packages (16 ounces) cream cheese, (room temperature)
½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs, (room temperature)
4 large Granny Smith apples, (peeled, cored, and thinly sliced)
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Caramel topping, (for garnish)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.

1 1/2 cups quick-cooking oats
1 1/3 cups flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
3/4 cup butter, chilled and cut into chunks
6 cups apples, peeled and chopped (about 4 large)
1/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a large bowl combine the dry topping ingredients. Cut in butter until crumbly. Press half of the mixture into the bottom of a 13x9 dish; reserve the rest of the crumb mixture for the top.
  • In large bowl toss together the apples and other ingredients for the apples until the apples are coated evenly. Spread over the crust.
  • In another bowl cream together the cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Add eggs, flour and milk. Beat until combined and then spread over the apple layer; then sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture.
  • Bake 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender. Cool completely on wire rack.

1/2 cup soft butter
1 cup shredded Velveeta cheese
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 cup apple jelly

Steps:

  • Beat together the butter and velveeta until well blended and creamy.
  • Add the flour, baking powder and brown sugar, blending until crumbly.
  • Measure 1 1/2 cups into an ungreased 8 inch square pan, and press inches.
  • Stir the apple jelly over low heat until easy to spread, then spread it over the crumb base.
  • Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture over top evenly.
  • Bake at 350*f for 25 minutes.

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter
8 cups apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (Golden Delicious, Northern Spy, or Cortland)
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 teaspoon nutmeg
1 (300 ml) can eagle brand sweetened condensed milk
1 (225 g) package cream cheese
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons lemon juice

Steps:

  • CRUST:.
  • Pulse all ingredients together except butter in food processor. Add butter and pulse until mixture resembles coarse meal. Reserve 1 1/2 cups for topping. Press remaining filling into parchment lined 13x9 inch baking pan. Bake in preheated 350F oven for 10 minutes.
  • FILLING:
  • Toss apples with lemon juice. Combine with remaining apple layer ingredients in large saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to medium low and cook until apples are tender (about 5 minutes). Cool completely.
  • CREAM CHEESE LAYER: Beat all ingredients together with electric mixer or food processor until smooth.
  • ASSSEMBLE AND BAKE:
  • Pour cream cheese layer over pre-baked crust. Top with apples. Sprinkle reserved crust ingredients over apples and bake for 40 minutes or until set. Cool. Cut into squares.

2 egg yolks
1 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded (4 ounces)
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 egg whites
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1/4 cup cream cheese, softened

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • For the crust, in a medium bowl, combine 2 cups flour, butter, 1/2 cup sugar, egg yolks and baking powder.
  • Beat with an electric mixer on low to medium speed until combined (mixture will be crumbly).
  • Press half of the crumb mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 13x9x2-inch baking pan.
  • Bake 10-12 minutes or until crust is lightly browned.
  • For filling, in a large bowl combine shredded apples, cheddar cheese, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup flour and the cinnamon.
  • Spread the filling evenly over the crust.
  • Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl beat the egg whites on medium speed until soft peaks form.
  • Gradually beat in powdered sugar and softened cream cheese.
  • Spoon the cream cheese mixture over the top layer of crumb mixture.
  • Bake 30-35 minutes more or until golden brown.
  • Cool in pan, cut into bars and serve.

I found this recipe in a newspaper a number of years ago, and I have been making it ever since. The apples go so well with the crumb and cream cheese layers. When fall comes around, this dessert is a real hit! Hint: Many reviewers have suggested doubling the amount of cream cheese!

1 cup walnuts, chopped

1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/2 cups apples, peeled and chopped

Steps:

  • Combine flour, brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Cut in butter to resemble coarse crumbs.
  • Add walnuts.
  • Measure 2 cups crumb mixture and set aside.
  • Press remaining mixture into a greased 9" x 13" pan.
  • Beat cream cheese and milk until smooth.
  • Mix in egg, sugar, and vanilla.
  • Pour over crumb mixture, and top with apples.
  • Sprinkle with the reserved crumbs and bake for 30 minutes at 350°F.
