BAKED ASIAN-STYLE HONEY CHICKEN



Baked Asian-Style Honey Chicken image

A marinade of honey, ginger, soy sauce, onion and garlic give this chicken dish an authentic Asian flavor without a lot of fuss.

1 (3 pound) whole chicken, cut into pieces
3 tablespoons chopped onion
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger root
1 teaspoon minced garlic
2 tablespoons honey
¼ cup chopped green onions

Steps:

  • To Marinate: Arrange chicken pieces in a 9x13 inch baking dish. In a small bowl combine the onion, soy sauce, ginger, garlic and honey; mix together and spoon mixture over chicken. Cover dish and refrigerate to marinate for 1 hour, turning pieces once.
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • Bake chicken at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) for 30 minutes. Turn pieces over and top with green onion, then continue baking for about 10 to 15 minutes, or until chicken is tender and cooked through and juices run clear. Serve immediately.

6 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
1 cup soy sauce
½ cup vinegar
1 green bell pepper, chopped
2 (8 ounce) cans sliced water chestnuts, drained

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Place chicken in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Pour soy sauce and vinegar over chicken, then sprinkle with bell pepper and top with water chestnuts.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 40 minutes or until chicken is cooked through and juices run clear.

Simple but not short on taste! I found this recipe on the back of a Campbell's Tomato Soup can. It quickly became a hit at our house.

1 can tomato soup
3 tablespoons vinegar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
2 lbs chicken parts

Steps:

  • Combine all except chicken.
  • In a 3 quart casserole, arrange chicken pieces.
  • Bake at 375 for 30 minutes.
  • Spoon off fat.
  • Spoon soup mixture over chicken.
  • Bake 30 minutes or til juices run clear.
  • Stir sauce.
  • Serve with rice if desired.
  • If desired remove skin before cooking.

4 skinless chicken thighs
1/2 cup shaoxing wine (rice wine or dry sherry works too)
1/3 cup soy sauce
2 teaspoons ginger, grated
4 cloves garlic, minced
5 whole star anise
1 teaspoon sesame oil
4 tablespoons water

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients except the chicken in a saucepan or flame-proof casserole, bring to boil over medium heat.
  • Add chicken thighs, simmer for 2 minutes, turning the chicken to coat with sauce.
  • Transfer pan/casserole to oven (preheated to 400°F/200°C) and bake uncovered for 40mins, turning once halfway through the cooking time.
  • Sprinkle with shredded green onions and red chilli before serving with plain jasmine rice.
