Brazilian Beef Stroganoff image

This Brazilian Beef Stroganoff is a delicious comfort food that your family is going to love. It's made with tender pieces of beef, smothered in a creamy sauce, and typically served with little potato sticks on the top, adding fun and texture. The best part? This dish is so quick and easy to prepare that you can have dinner ready and on the table in 30 minutes.

1 Tbsp olive oil
1.5 lbs high quality beef such as fillet mignon, beef tenderloin, top sirloin, ribeye steak cut into cubes or sliced into strips
1 medium onion, diced
2 Tbsp Brazilian sofrito (or 3 cloves of garlic, minced)
8 oz white mushrooms, sliced
6 oz tomato paste
2 Tbsp ketchup
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 cups heavy cream
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Season the beef pieces with salt and pepper, and let it sit on the counter at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Place a large heavy bottomed pan or dutch oven over medium to high heat. Add the olive oil, and when the oil is hot, add in the beef pieces, and quick sear them in a single layer, no longer than a minute or 2.
  • Remove the beef from the pan, place it on a plate and reserve.
  • Using that same pan, sauté the onions over medium heat - about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the garlic, and sauté until fragrant - about 1-2 minutes.
  • Add the sliced mushrooms, and sauté until the mushrooms wilt down - about 5-6 mins.
  • Add the beef back in, then the tomato paste, the Worcestershire, and the ketchup and saute for about 2 minutes, stirring.
  • Add 1/4 cup of water to the pan, and simmer a couple of minutes, stirring and scraping any bits off the sides and bottom of the pan.
  • Add in the the cream, and simmer just a couple more minutes and you're all done!

I went in search of Brazilian recipes, for a night I'm planning. I didn't realize how popular stoganoff was! This is a combination of 2 recipes.

2 lbs beef or 2 lbs chicken fillets, cut into 1 inch pieces
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 onion, chopped, divided
salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 cup dry white wine
2 tablespoons oil
1/2 lb cultivated white mushroom, sliced
2 -3 tablespoons ketchup
1 1/2 tablespoons mild mustard, i would use dijon
1/2 cup sour cream

Steps:

  • Put the meat/chicken into a bowl with garlic, half the onion, salt, nutmeg, oregano and wine.
  • Allow to marinate for 1 hour.
  • Heat the oil and saute the remaining onion and mushrooms for a few minutes or until softened.
  • Add the meat/chicken and marinade to the pan and cook.
  • Add the ketchup and mustard.
  • If it looks a bit dry, add a few tablespoons of water and cook a little longer.
  • When the meat is cooked, add the sour cream and reheat gently-DO NOT BOIL.
  • Serve with steamed white rice.
  • *This should be cooked quickly so the meat doesn't toughen.

In Brazil people love this food to serve in a special occasion for dinner. It's cheap and easy. It's the perfect meal for company. You should serve with white rice and potato sticks (I rather process the potato and fry it myself)

1 1/2 lbs top round beef, option fillet mignon (clean and cut in 1/2 inch cubes)
1 1/2 tablespoons onions, processed
1/2 tablespoon garlic, processed
1 tablespoon mustard
1 tablespoon ketchup
2 tablespoons maggi instant beef bouillon
1/2 cup canned mushroom
2 cups water
225 ml table cream
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon cornstarch

Steps:

  • In a big pot put together the beef, onion, garlic, mustard, ketchup, bouillon
  • Heat it (medium-high) and keep mixing it until the meat turn from red to brown.
  • Add the 2 cups of water and let it boil.
  • change the heat to low and let it simmer for 1 hour. (30 min for Fillet).
  • Mix the Corn Starch and the 1/4 cup water
  • Change the heat to medium high again
  • Stir the pot continuously and add the table cream and the corn starch.
  • Don't let it boil, When the sauce is thicker, it's ready!
  • Enjoy it!

  • In that same skillet, heat the remaining olive oil. When shimmering, add the beef and brown on all sides. Remove and reserve. Add the mushrooms and cook until they release liquid and are starting to brown, about 8 minutes.
  • Return browned beef and onion back to the skillet. Add the Dijon mustard, ketchup and Worcestershire sauce.
