Kidney beans, baked beans and butter beans are combined with ground beef, bacon and onion and baked. It's thick, hearty, and pretty tasty too! This can also be done in a slow cooker.

1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, undrained
1 (16 ounce) can baked beans with pork
1 (15 ounce) can butter beans, undrained
½ cup ketchup
2 teaspoons white vinegar
1 tablespoon dry mustard
¾ cup packed brown sugar
1 pound lean ground beef
4 ounces bacon, chopped
½ cup chopped onion
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, fry the ground beef, bacon and onion together until ground beef is no longer pink. Drain fat.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the kidney beans, baked beans with pork and butter beans. Stir in the ketchup, white vinegar, dry mustard, brown sugar and cook beef mixture. Mix thoroughly, adding salt and pepper to taste.
  • Pour the bean and meat mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish. Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes.

½ cup bacon, chopped
1 pound lean ground beef
1 (15 ounce) can pork and beans
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained
1 (15 ounce) can butter beans
1 (15 ounce) can lima beans, drained
½ cup ketchup
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup chopped onion
3 tablespoons white wine vinegar
1 teaspoon mustard powder
½ cup chopped celery

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 C).
  • Place bacon and ground beef in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain and set aside.
  • In a four quart casserole dish, mix together the bacon, ground beef, pork and beans, kidney beans, butter beans, lima beans, ketchup, onion, vinegar, dry mustard and celery.
  • Cover and bake for 1 hour.

1 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
1 small onion, chopped
1 can (21 ounces) pork and beans
1 can (16 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (16 ounces) butter beans, rinsed and drained
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup ketchup
4 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325°. In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until beef is no longer pink, 5-7 minutes, breaking up beef into crumbles; drain. Stir in remaining ingredients. Transfer to a greased 2-qt. cast-iron pan or baking dish. , Bake, uncovered, until the beans are as thick as desired, 45-60 minutes.

1 lb ground beef (any kind will do, I used ground sirloin)
½ cup diced yellow onion (about half a large onion)
½ cup diced bacon (about 3-4 pieces thick-cut bacon)
1 (15½-oz) can dark red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 (16-oz) can butter beans, rinsed and drained
2 (16- to 18-oz) jars or cans of B&M brick oven baked beans
¾ cup brown sugar
½ cup ketchup
2 tsp apple cider vinegar (can use white vinegar instead)
1 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp dry mustard

Steps:

  • Heat a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Add bacon, onion and ground beef. Cook and brown, breaking up ground beef with wooden spoon, until beef is cooked and onion is soft and translucent, about 10 - 12 minutes. Drain grease.
  • Add the beans, brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, salt and mustard; stir to combine and bring to a simmer. Turn heat down, cover and simmer gently for 30 minutes, stirring often. Serve and enjoy!

Calico beans (aka cowboy beans or trucker beans) get their name from the variety of bean colors in the dish. Here we use a trio of canned beans: white navy beans, deep red kidney beans and light brown pork and beans. They're baked with bacon and ground beef in a tangy-sweet sauce until bubbling, resulting in the perfect summer side dish to accompany grilled meats. Calico beans are also great on their own as a main course, topped with shredded cheese and hot sauce.

6 slices bacon (about 6 ounces), cut crosswise into 1/4-inch pieces
1 medium yellow onion, diced
1 pound ground beef, 80/20
One 15-ounce can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
One 15-ounce can navy beans, rinsed and drained
One 11-ounce can pork and beans
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1 tablespoon dry mustard

Steps:

  • Position an oven rack in the middle of the oven and preheat to 325 degrees F.
  • Put the bacon in a large skillet and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until crispy, 8 to 10 minutes. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon to a paper-towel lined plate. Pour off all but 1 tablespoon of the bacon fat from the skillet. 4 ounces bacon (4 slices)
2/3 cup diced white onion
1/2 cup brown sugar (100 grams)
2 tablespoons white vinegar (31 grams)
1 tablespoon mustard (15 grams)
1 teaspoon salt (5 grams)
1/2 cup ketchup (4 ounces)
15 ounces lima beans (1 can, drained)
15.5 ounces kidney beans (1 can, rinsed and drained)
28 ounces pork and beans (with juice)

Steps:

  • In a skillet over medium high heat, brown the ground beef along with the bacon and onion. Cook and stir until the beef and bacon are fully cooked. Then drain off any fat.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, vinegar, mustard, salt and ketchup. Set aside.
  • In a large dutch oven or oven safe casserole dish, add the drained lima beans, rinsed and drained kidney beans and then add the whole can of pork and beans, juice and all.
  • Add the beef/bacon mixture and then add the sauce. Mix well until it is all combined.
  • Preheat the oven to 300ºF.
  • Cover the beans (if you don't have a lid that works, use aluminum foil), then bake for 45 minutes or until heated through and bubbling.
  • Serve warm.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
