SWEET AND TANGY APPLE PORK CHOPS

Sweet and Tangy Apple Pork Chops image

This is a recipe I created using the idea that pork and apples go splendidly together! The seasonings give the pork a sweet and slightly spicy taste. The apple cider adds to the sweetness, while bringing a unique tartness as it is absorbed into the meat. Serve with applesauce, if desired. Hope you enjoy!

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons honey mustard

½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1 pound pork chops
2 tablespoons butter
¾ cup apple cider

Steps:

  • Mix brown sugar, honey mustard, mustard powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder together in a small bowl; rub onto pork chops and let sit on a plate for flavors to dissolve into pork chops, about 10 minutes.
  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat; add apple cider. Arrange coated pork chops in the skillet; cook until pork chops are browned, 5 to 7 minutes per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 145 degrees F (63 degrees C).

PORK CHOPS AND CARAMELIZED APPLES RECIPE - (4.2/5)

Pork Chops and Caramelized Apples Recipe - (4.2/5) image

Provided by msippigrl

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 center cut bone-in pork chops (1/2" thick)
1 teaspoon olive oil
1/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
2 pinches of salt
1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons salted butter
3 medium Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored and sliced

Steps:

  • *Preheat oven to 400° F. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brush pork chops lightly with oil then season with a little salt and black pepper and place in hot skillet. Cook for 3 - 4 minutes on each side, until pork has a nice golden crust. Transfer to a baking pan and bake about 20 minutes, or until chops are done. Meanwhile, in a small mixing bowl, stir together the brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and salt and pepper. Set aside. Melt butter in a medium skillet (that has a cover) then stir in the apples and brown sugar mixture. Cover the skillet and cook until apples are crisp tender. (I checked with a toothpick.) Remove apples from the syrup with a slotted spoon. Continue cooking the syrup in skillet, uncovered, until thickened somewhat. Arrange the apples over the cooked pork chops then spoon the syrup over apples and chops. NOTE: *I finished the pork chops on the stovetop instead of baking them. After searing them on both sides in the hot skillet, I reduced the heat, covered the skillet, and cooked until they were done.
