1 12 oz. bottle chili sauce
1 cup grape jelly
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup orange juice
1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
Green onions - garnish (optional)

Steps:

  • This step is only if you wish: Brown the meatballs on all sides in a skillet on the stove. Then place them into the crockpot.
  • Add the frozen meatballs into the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • Next, add in the whole jar of chili sauce.
  • Next, add in the grape jelly.
  • Then add in the brown sugar, the garlic powder, and the orange juice. Stir everything together and make sure that all of the meatballs are completely covered.
  • If you are cooking on HIGH, they will be ready in 2 to 3 hours.
  • If you are cooking on LOW, they will be ready in 4 to 6 hours.

Many versions of this dish live on the Internet and for good reason-it's quick, easy and a real crowd pleaser. We find some of them a bit too cloying though, so we scaled down the jelly and added a little acidity and heat in the form of Dijon mustard, cider vinegar and hot sauce to create the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. We use beef meatballs, but you can substitute turkey or veggie ones.

  • Place chili sauce, grape jelly, and water in the pot of the Instant Pot and mix until combined.
  • Add meatballs and cover with sauce
  • Place lid on and set to sealing.
  • Set timer for five minutes on manual high pressure
  • Once the timer goes over, quick pressure release all of the pressure.
  • Set to saute and stir until sauce is thickened. You may add a mixture of 1 teaspoon cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water to help thicken.

This is easy and always a big hit at my get togethers, it's great with mini meatballs or Lil Smokies, to make it ever more easier purchase ready made frozen cooked small meatballs or you can make your own and cook them first, I use recipe#69173 see bottom of recipe for baking times --- this is great to take to a potluck :)

3 -5 lbs frozen cooked small meatballs or 3 -5 lbs Little Smokies sausages
1 (32 ounce) jar grape jelly

1 pinch cayenne pepper (optional)

Steps:

  • In a pot combine the grape jelly with the chili sauce; add in the meatballs and simmer for about 45 minutes uncovered or until the sauce has thickened.
  • If you are making my Parmesan meatball recipe use 2-1/2 to 3 pounds lean ground beef or use half beef and ground pork shape.
  • Shape into about 1-inch balls.
  • Place on a baking sheet.
  • Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through.
  • Place in the prepared sauce.
