Here's a classic mojito recipe, perfectly balanced with lime, rum and fresh mint! This iconic Cuban cocktail is refreshing and just sweet enough.

Steps:
- In a cocktail shaker, muddle the mint leaves with the lime juice and syrup. (Here's how to muddle mint.)
- Add the rum and fill the cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until cold.
- Place ice into a glass, and strain in the liquid. Top off the glass with soda water. Garnish with additional mint leaves.

CUBAN MOJITO
This is a traditional mojito recipe, very similar to the drinks I enjoyed in Varadero, Cuba. The muddling and the order of the ingredients helps ensure that all the flavors are well blended. Serve with a straw and a decorative stir stick to keep the different flavors well mixed together. Mint sprigs may be used for a garnish instead of lime wedges. Enjoy!

Steps:
- Place 1 teaspoon of sugar into each of two 12 ounce glasses. Squeeze the juice from a lime wedge into each glass, drop in the wedge, and add 2 sprigs of mint. Use a spoon or muddler to mash the sugar, lime juice, and mint together in the bottom of the glasses. Fill each glass about half full with crushed ice. Pour 1/4 cup rum into each glass. Fill the glasses with club soda, stir, and garnish with additional lime wedges.

- Hotel Nacional. Named for the famed hotel in Havana that opened its doors in late 1930, this cocktail presents little debate as to who gets credit for its invention.
- Cuba Libre. The origin of the Cuba Libre dates back to the Spanish-American war, where, as the story goes, American soldiers holed up in a Cuban bar, ordered a rum and Coca-Cola and toasted their Cuban friends, with the words por Cuba libre (“to Cuban freedom”).
- El Presidente. Stories differ as to which president the cocktail is named for (likely Gerardo Machado, a onetime president of Cuba) and who should be credited for the recipe.
