Got this great side recipe from Moma Dip's Family Cookbook by Mildred Council that was given to my by a friend on my Birthday, Made it with Honey Salmon recipe #4682

1 (10 ounce) box frozen baby green peas
1 (12 ounce) jar cooked white pearl onions
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup chicken broth
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Put the peas in a pot with the butter, chicken broth and evapotated milk.
  • Cook over medium heat for 15 minutes.
  • Add the sugar if desired.
  • Mix the corn starch with the water and add to pot.
  • Add the salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add the pearl onions.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for another 10 to 12 minutes and serve.

1 3/4 lbs English peas, fresh
1 1/2 cups white pearl onions (1/2 pound)
1 cup 1% low-fat milk
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon margarine
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon fresh ground pepper

Steps:

  • Shell and wash peas; set aside.
  • Remove outer skin from onions.
  • Combine peas and onions in a large saucepan; add water to cover.
  • Bring to a boil, and cook 10 minutes or until peas are tender.
  • Drain and set aside.
  • Add milk and next 4 ingredients to saucepan; stir well.
  • Bring to a boil, and cook 1 minute or until thickened, stirring constantly.
  • Return peas and onions to saucepan; stir well.
  • Yield: 3 servings (serving size: 1 cup).

Mom use to open a box of Creamed Peas and Pearl Onions - I loved that stuff ! The other day I remembered and went in search of a quick and easy recipe. I found hard to make ones, complicated ones, and pretty close ones....put them together and came up with this one that was pretty much " just right."

10 ounces peas, frozen (one bag )
1/4 cup butter
1 1/2 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 cups half-and-half
1/2 tablespoon sugar
16 ounces white pearl onions, frozen (one bag )
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Boil and drain peas. Move to bowl.
  • Melt butter in the pan you just boiled the peas in and add flour.
  • Stir over heat until bubbly and add the cream and sugar.
  • When starting to thicken add the onions and bring back up to a simmer.
  • When thickened and the onions are translucent, add back in the peas and stir well.

  • Add butter to the pan and heat over medium low heat. Once it is melted, add the flour and mix with a whisk or fork until it clumps.Note: if you are using olive oil, just add the flour to it after a few seconds.
  • Add 1 cup milk or almond milk and then whisk, breaking up clumps as you go. Let the mixture boil and thicken while whisking. Then let it sit for a few minutes. The sauce will be very thick. Then Add another 1 cup of milk or almond milk, whisk, and let it sit. Whisk every so often until sauce reaches desired thickness.
