You know how regular French Toast is made, and sometimes using too much syrup or egg batter may make the bread soggy - even when it's thoroughly cooked! This recipe makes the toast crispy, well, extra crispy that is :-D

Number Of Ingredients 12

4 eggs
2/3 cup whole milk
1/3 cup flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
canola oil
10 slices Texas toast thick bread
6 tablespoons butter
1 cup powdered sugar
16 ounces maple syrup

Steps:

  • Mix together the flour, sugar, vanilla, salt and cinnamon.
  • Mix in the eggs and milk to the flour, sugar, vanilla, salt and cinnamon mixture.
  • Heat a deep, large skillet, fill up with Canola Oil just enough to cover the Texas toast thick bread.
  • If the oil smokes, your pan is too hot; turn down the heat.
  • With tongs, dip the slice of bread into the batter for 30 to 45 seconds or more, depending on how crispy you want it!
  • Let the oil drip off, as much as possible.
  • To serve, put on plate, dust with powdered sugar. Serve with butter and hot syrup.

Recipe for Perfect French Toast with crispy edges, a custardy middle, a berry compote, with a drizzle of pure maple syrup, and a sprinkling of icing sugar.

Stale Baguette, cut into 1-1 ½ inch thick slices
3 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup half and half
2 tsp Vanilla Extract
Pinch of Ground Cinnamon
Pinch of Ground Nutmeg
2 tbsp Honey
Unsalted butter, for cooking
Icing Sugar, for dusting
Pure Maple Syrup, for deliciousness
¼ cup Mixed Berries
¼ cup Water
1 tbsp Sugar
1 tsp Balsamic Vinegar

Steps:

  • (Optional) Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Mix eggs, half-and-half, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and honey in a small flat bottomed dish.
  • Soak baguette slices in the batter (depending on the thickness of your bread and size of your dish, 30 seconds to 1min 30 seconds per side). Remove and keep aside.
  • Heat pan to low-medium heat, and coat with butter. Cook the soaked bread for 1-3 minutes per side.
  • (Optional) Bake the cooked slices in the oven for 8-10 minutes.
  • Serve immediately, dressing with icing sugar, maple syrup, and berry compote.
  • Mix all the ingredients over medium heat, stirring regularly until the mixture reduces to the consistency / flavour you like. (I like mine to reduce a lot as I prefer strong deep flavours, but you do you bestie!)

1 (13- to 16-ounce) loaf of French bread
8 large eggs
2 cups half-and-half or heavy whipping cream
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 ground nutmeg
1 pinch of salt
Maple syrup, for serving
1/2 pound butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish generously with butter.
  • Slice the French bread into 20 (1-inch) pieces. Arrange the bread in the greased dish in 2 rows, overlapping the slices. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half or cream, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well-blended, but not bubbly.
  • Pour the mixture over the bread slices. Spoon some of the mixture in between the slices to be sure all are evenly soaked.
  • Cover the dish with foil and chill in the fridge overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • For the praline topping, mix butter, brown sugar, pecans, corn syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well-combined. Spread the topping over the bread slices.
  • Bake for 40 minutes, or until puffed and lightly golden.
  • Serve with maple syrup. Enjoy!
