Healthy Homemade Spaghetti Sauce image

Healthy Homemade Spaghetti Sauce recipe has no added sugar! It's meaty, thick, full of Italian flavor and great served over traditional pasta or spaghetti squash for a low-carb meal.

1 1/2 pounds ground beef
3 teaspoons minced garlic
2 cans tomato puree (29 ounces each)
2 cans diced tomatoes, with juice (14.5 ounces each)
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons oregano
2 teaspoons basil
1 teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, brown the ground beef along with the garlic. Drain.
  • Add in the rest of the ingredients and bring to a low boil, stirring often.
  • Once the sauce is heated through and at a low boil, reduce the burner temperature to low and simmer uncovered for 45 minutes.
  • Serve immediately or allow the sauce to cool, then package it in freezer-safe containers for easy storage.

In 1988, the Healthy Choice brand introduced frozen dinners with reduced fat, sodium, and cholesterol. Hundreds of other products followed through the '90s, including this fat-free pasta sauce, which hit stores in 1992. It's a cinch to make and goes great on any pasta, pizza, or meatball sandwich.. 1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon dried minced garlic
1 teaspoon dried minced onion
5 teaspoons granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon dried parsley
1/8 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
dash ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium/high heat and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until sauce is thick.
  • Makes 2 1/2 cups
