Hidden Surprise Easter Egg Treats™ image

Straight-up crispy treats are (as the name implies) always a treat. But for Easter, these egg-shaped yummies have candy surprises tucked inside.

12 plastic snap-apart 3x2-inch Easter eggs
3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
4 cups JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows
6 cups KELLOGG'S® RICE KRISPIES® cereal
72 M&M's® Brand Chocolate Candies (about 1/2 cup)

Steps:

  • Coat insides of clean plastic eggs with cooking spray.
  • Melt butter in large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows; cook and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat. Add cereal; stir until evenly coated.
  • Press 1/4 cup cereal mixture (with greased hands) firmly into each egg half, hollowing out center. Remove from molds. Place on sheet of waxed paper. Cool slightly.
  • Place about 6 candies in one half of each egg. Gently press both halves of each egg together. Cool completely.

I found this on the Rice Krispies webpage. I haven't made them yet, but plan to at Easter. Looks like a fun activity for kids.

3 tablespoons butter or 3 tablespoons margarine
4 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups kellogg's crisp rice cereal
1/2 cup M&M's plain chocolate candy, Easter colored
frosting (optional) or decorating gel (optional)
plastic snap-apart easter egg, 12 (3 x 2-in)

Steps:

  • Clean, then coat inside of plastic eggs with cooking spray. Set aside.
  • In large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
  • Add Kellogg's® Rice Krispies® cereal. Stir until well coated.
  • Using greased hands, firmly press 1/4 cup of Rice Krispies® mixture into both halves of each plastic egg. Use fingers to make hollow center in each half. Remove from molds. Place on wax paper. Cool slightly.
  • Place about 6 M&M'S® Brand Chocolate Candies in one half of each egg. Gently press two halves of each egg together until they stick. Cool completely.
  • Decorate with frosting and additional M&M'S® Brand Chocolate Candies (if desired). Best if served the same day. Serving size is 1 egg.

6 cups KELLOGG'S® RICE KRISPIES® Cereal
½ cup M&M's® Brand Chocolate Candies
1 cup Canned frosting or decorator gel

Steps:

  • Clean, then coat inside of plastic eggs with cooking spray. Set aside.
  • In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add JET-PUFFED Marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
  • Add KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES cereal. Stir until well coated.
  • Using greased hands, firmly press 1/4 cup of the cereal mixture into each plastic egg half. Use fingers to make hollow center in each half. Remove from molds. Place on wax paper. Cool slightly.

  • If your saucepan is large enough, add Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal and stir until well coated. If your saucepan is not big enough, add Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal to a large bowl and pour marshmallow mixture on top, stirring until well coated.
  • Using greased hands, firmly press 1/4 cup of cereal mixture into each plastic egg half. Use fingers to make hollow center in each half. (TIP: Use a rounded tablespoon measuring spoon and press firmly in the center of each egg. This will make hollowing out the center much easier.) I used a mini muffin pan to hold the egg halves upright while I was finishing the whole batch.
