Homemade Cherry Flavored Syrup (For Icy's) image

Since I got the Magic Bullet I have been making lots of slushies and smoothies. I got a craving for cherry so I decided to see if I could make my own syrup. This is what I came up with.

Yield 2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 cup water
2 cups sugar
1 -2 tablespoon cherry extract, flavoring
red food coloring (as needed)

Steps:

  • Heat water and sugar in a saucepan over low to medium heat. Stir to dissolve sugar.
  • When sugar is dissolved, remove from heat and let cool 30 minutes.
  • Add cherry extract and red food coloring stir well.
  • Pour into a glass container with lid and use as needed.
  • NOTE: You can use any flavor extract to make different flavors.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 package (12 ounces) frozen pitted dark sweet cherries, thawed
1 cup water
2-1/2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Dash ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Bring cherries and water to a boil in a small saucepan. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes., Add sugar and butter; cook and stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat; stir in extract and cinnamon., Cool leftovers; transfer to airtight containers. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

  • Place the cherries, sugar, water, and lemon juice in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer over low-medium heat and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Use a wooden spoon or potato masher to smash the cherries as they cook. Allow the mixture to continue to simmer for 8 to 10 minutes until the fruit has broken down.
  • Remove from heat, and allow the mixture to cool for 10 to 15 minutes or longer if desired. Pour the mixture through a mesh sieve to remove the fruit pieces.
  • Use the cherry syrup to flavor sodas, alcohol based drinks, or as a drizzle for desserts. Store the leftover in the refrigerator for up to a week.
