2 cups tomato sauce (or one 14.5 oz can)
1 can (6 oz) of tomato paste
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup real maple syrup
1/4 cup molasses
2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt (I use this salt.)
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1-2 teaspoons liquid smoke (optional, but nice if you're wanting the smokey flavor)
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional- use only if you want a kick)

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan, and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  • Continue to mix and simmer for 10-15 minutes so all the ingredients can meld together.
  • Transfer to a jar and store in the refrigerator for up to several weeks. You can also freeze it for longer storage.

This BBQ Sauce recipe is a Kansas City-style barbecue sauce that is the perfect blend of sweet and tangy with a hint of a smoky flavor.

2 cups ketchup
2 cups tomato sauce
1 1/4 cups brown sugar
1 1/4 cups red wine vinegar
1/2 cup unsulphured molasses
4 teaspoons liquid smoke, (hickory flavored)
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan, add ketchup, tomato sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, molasses, liquid smoke, butter, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, paprika, celery seed, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Mix well and bring to a simmer.
  • After the sauce has come to a simmer, reduce heat to low for 20 minutes. For a thicker sauce, keep in on low heat for a little longer. Add a little water to the sauce if it is too thick.
  • Serve warm. Or, store the cooled sauce in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

This is a recipe that my dad made every summer when I was a kid. You can vary the type of pepper you use to get a different level of heat. I like mine on the mild side. This barbecue sauce is good on just about anything you put it on from chicken to steak to French fries! Sauce must be kept refrigerated.

2 cups chopped onion
5 cloves garlic, minced, or more to taste
1 cup ketchup
1 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 cup brewed coffee
½ cup cider vinegar
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup minced hot chile peppers
3 tablespoons chili powder
2 teaspoons salt

Steps:

  • Combine onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire, coffee, vinegar, brown sugar, chile peppers, chili powder, and salt in a large saucepan and heat over medium-high heat until simmering. Reduce heat and simmer for 25 minutes.
  • Puree in a food processor or blender until smooth.
